comfortable, great sound quality, amazing for price when discounted
i used my last pair for five years, i think it was. the first thing that went was the charging - they didn't charge in the case. so i had to charge the earbuds by charging the case. then the case didn't charge as well anymore. then the battery of the earbuds declined so i only had maybe an hour of noise cancellation, which is my primary reason for using these. then they stopped pairing so well, and then ultimately one earbud stopped working altogether. so i bought another pair! these are worth buying when they're on sale the two times a year they go on sale. camelcamelcamel.com can tell you exactly by copying and pasting their URL. these have the best sound quality ever. the bass is AMAZING and makes all the difference for me. the other aspects of the quality are also incredible and the noise cancellation is the best i've tried so far. would definitely recommend - and have! my dad bought them as well, and he's very very picky about comfort. he always complains about how they fit in his ears. but he likes these and he is willing to work out with them as well.

Fit them properly and they sound great!
I have read a number of reviews of these earbuds that complained about tinny and/or hollow sound. That’s too bad because there’s nothing wrong with the earbuds, you just need to fit them properly to your ears and the sound quality will be great. Here’s the deal: the earbuds come with three different size tips. You try each one until you get the most comfortable fit THAT ALSO seals them to your ears so there is no sound “leakage”. If you don’t fit them properly the low bass and midrange can literally leak out and you get that hollow sound. Also, outside noise can get in and compromise the noise cancellation feature. Play your favorite music while you test each tip. When you get a proper seal the music will suddenly sound great and you will realize how good these earbuds are. In addition, be sure to get the app installed to select the equalization profile that best suits your kind of music. And make your own profile if you want to tailor the sound to your exact tastes if you’re a perfectionist. I have included a picture of the equalization profile I created for classical music, since the app doesn’t come with one for classical. You may want to create one like it. If you do all of the above, these earbuds will sound great: a clean, pure and rich sound, equally suited to vocal and instrumental music of any genre.

Great wireless earbuds that don't burn a hole in my wallet!
Updated 1 year later: I'm dropping my 5 stars to 4 stars. I still enjoy these headphones. And the battery is still good. After about an hour or so, my ears will start to get sore, but it's not too bad. They do cut out for about 1 sec maybe every 20 mins or so, but for the price I paid, I'm still pretty happy with them. I had not had a chance to really compare them with others until recently. We bought my dad for his birthday the Sony WF-1000XM5. They are double the price of these JBLs. He was having trouble with them so I took them for a week to find out what he was doing wrong (nothing was wrong - he wasn't wearing them correctly). While I was testing them, didn't cut out, and the sound, comfort, ambient aware and noise cancelling features were incredible. Sony's were 10x better than the JBLs. Bottom line: If you want a decent pair of noise cancelling earbuds without paying a fortune, I do believe, for the price, these JBLs are still a good buy. I liked being able to finally compare them, though, to another brand. Hope this helps. Previous post: I am super impressed with the noise canceling on these earbuds. I was looking for earbuds that had a good balance of comfort and noise cancelling and decent sound. With all the earbuds I have bought in the past I never found ones that were good at canceling the loud noise of plane engines when flying and I was always turning the sound up super loud just to hear the music. These earbuds are comfortable and did a fantastic job of canceling the background noise. I also really like the "ambient aware" function that allows me to turn off the noise canceling when my wife was talking next to me on the plane and I didn't have to take the earbuds out to hear her. I'm not an expert by any means, but I feel these $100 earbuds cancel out noise as well as some of the other more pricey $200-300+ over the ear brands I have played around with in stores that are big and bulky to carry around. The case is small and can fit in my pocket easily, and I can charge them while in my pocket. So when I have a layover flight, by time I got these out at my next flight gate or on the plane, they're ready to go. And I found them on sale on here for $50, which made it even better! I haven't tried these for working out or running yet so I can't say how they are with sweating and such. But for the casual wearer who would use them for something like traveling, these are DEFINITELY worth it! I highly recommend them.

Very Good Headphones, Highly Recommend
I loved them — they are excellent-quality headphones. They get very loud, have highly effective noise cancellation, and are great for calls.

Disappointing
There are several things I like about the JBL 230. The sound quality is pretty good and the noise cancelling is excellent for this price range. So, if you're in a noisy office or work environment, these may work for you. The battery life is great, and the JBL app provides a good equalizer for customizing your sound. I love the blue color, and the touch controls work, even if finding that "sweet" spot takes a bit of practice. What I don't like is that every time you put the earbuds in, they start in the "Ambient Aware" mode (sounds around you are amplified). It's great, if you want to hear what Margret down in accounting thinks about Bob's new haircut from across the room, but I hate it. I'm typically putting in earbuds to block out the sound around me, not to make it louder. Plus, the Ambient Aware function uses battery life. I'd much rather have the ability to start in a "normal" (non-amplified) setting, but that's not available. You have to start with them active and either open up the app to turn it off or set the buds to use a touch feature to turn it off (meaning you can't use the touch feature to control your music, change volume or anything else). My second gripe is around the microphones and wind. Any slight breeze makes it impossible for you to be heard at the other end of a phone call. I'm often outside and I simply can't make phone calls if there's a breeze. Likewise, driving with the windows down while on the phone is a no-go. The wind drowns out everything else. If you happen to have Ambient Aware turned on (remember, it's the default?), it amplifies that wind noise in your ears, as well, even if you're not on the phone. This is a real deal breaker, and everyone from Apple to Samsung and Sony do a much better job of limiting wind noise on phone calls with their buds. There are other minor things. The buds are very lightweight, which is good, but they stick a little too far out of my ear, so they're always getting knocked loose. They sit in the case with the speakers facing outward, so you always have to turn them around when taking them out or putting them away, since most people are designed with their ear canals going *in* to their heads (this design makes zero sense). The app is slow to load. You can't do anything in the app until it finds and connects to your buds, so you have to have at least one bud in to use the app for anything, which is weird (I can't even view the app right now to tell you about it because my buds are at home, so the app won't open), and many app features aren't accessible unless you have both buds in. I really wanted to like these, but the inability to use them in 90% of the cases I want them just makes them worthless to me.

They work great .
Works great for about two years . This is my second set . You need to clean your ears everyday with a q-tip or you’ll cunk up the ear buds and they will fail prematurely. After about a year and a half the earbuds start losing the ability to connect to the case easily and they start unevenly charging so one earbud will go dead immediately or within a couple or three hours , you can remedy this by placing the case on its bottom on a table so gravity helps connect the earbuds to the charging points in the case but eventually they just wear out . I use my earbuds daily for 6-8 or more hours per day at work 5-6 and sometimes 7 days per week . I work in a loud dusty dirty environment. The noise cancellation is fantastic and even works to block out the roar of my 48 inch loud John Deere lawn mower . I love the earbuds but .., I wish they lasted longer . I’ll be buying another pair soon .

At 50% or more off, these are great.
I have one pair for work and one for home/going out. I wouldn’t have spent $100 on each pair but at $50 per pair they’re a good deal. The ANC is pretty impressive for little earbuds. Makes the background sounds in an IHOP at 9:30 on a Sunday nearly disappear. They also eliminate the sound of snoring dogs and humans. Took a recent trip on an airplane and opted to bring these instead of my Sennheiser Momentum 3’s. I’m an audiophile on a budget. They can’t compete with the over-ear Momentum for sound reproduction. But for earbuds they’re a great product at the sale price. There is a JBL app you can download to your smartphone but the controls are reasonably intuitive. I have big fingers so I probably miss the sweet-spot for function control more than the average person. I’ve found the bass to be a little lacking but I think that’s due to the EQ setting I’ve selected. You do have some EQ presets to choose between in the app. They come with three sets of the rubber earplugs for various sizes of ear-canals. Medium worked for me. I can use them to sleep, travel, shut out the loud noises in restaurants, and for Zoom calls. Consider the color you want to stand out against your bedding when they fall out if falling asleep with them in. I like them enough that I bought a second, dedicated pair for work. The ANC has three settings but so far I haven’t found one that totally mutes audio output from your device in the “ambient-aware” or “talk through” modes. That’s a feature I like on my Momentum. It can be accomplished by the extra step of just pausing playback with a tap on the right, then tap the left to toggle through the three ANC modes. They work great with an iPhone as well as Windows 10/11 computers. Much greater clarity the the JLAB go, which don’t seem to have any functional ANC. I should have spent the extra money at the get-go. Buy them when on sale. They’ll probably be fine for you. If ANC and a variety of EQ options are the most important features for you, spring for the current $300 - $400 Sony over-ears. I have a pair of those in the house-too. Their ANC is better but for the music I listen to the Sennheisers are #1. However I would recommend the Sonys for over-ear for the average listener and these for travel, etc. it’s a lot harder to lose a big set of cans than earbuds so I don’t want to invest too much in these little guys. JBL has always served me pretty well for the price in the pro-audio and live sound amplification area so I had some confidence in the name when I bought these.

Not bad but not for me
I’ve used AirPods consistently for the past 6 years (2 originals, then a Gen 3) but none of them has lasted more than 14-18 months with full functionality. Inevitably, a mic stops working and/or one seems to have lost a lot of volume. So I decided to try something different this time around and this is my take on the JBL 230nc Tune vs the AirPod Gen 3, which is what I’ve been using ~10 hours/day for the last 22 months. JBL Cons - Takes a moment to start/stop playback. Long enough to be slightly annoying for a long-time AirPods user. - Seems to have a lower max volume than the AirPods. - I walked too far from the phone and had to forget and re-pair the earbuds entirely. - They keep making noises/chines and I have no idea why. I’ve checked the manual and nothing. - Playback doesn’t stop if the earbuds fall out or are removed. It’s also ridiculously easy to accidentally turn them on if a single earbud is in a pant or purse pocket. 😬 - You can’t control audio playback AND calls. You have to select either the playback settings or the call settings. I listen to audiobooks all day but get frequent calls and not being able to mute my calls from the earbud itself is more inconvenient than I expected it to be. Apparently I use that feature more than I realized. —————————————— JBL Neutral - Comfort. I’m putting this as a neutral because it’s pretty equally a pro and a con. They fit really well with the smaller attachment but I never actually forgot I was wearing them, which happens with the AirPods every single day. It’s both good and bad. —————————————— JBL Pros - Great battery life. Probably better than AirPods, even when they’re brand new and at their best. - No Force Touch. It’s easy to turn on/off even with wet or messy fingers, (using a knuckle or any dry skin spot, really) which is a massive plus for someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen. - It’s touch, not tap, so almost no force is required. - Initially I was going to say that the earbuds don’t fall out at all, but as soon as my hair wasn’t pulled up, they started to. Not as often as the AirPods do, which they do even with no hair touching them, but often enough. To be fair, I have long hair and a lot of it, so I’m sure it knocks into the earbuds and displaces them, but it’s something to note. - Price. During Prime Days I got them for $55, which included 2-year warranty. I’ve had 3 pairs of AirPods and none of them has lasted even 2 years (although I use them A LOT, enough that it’s not surprising they only last 18 months with no issues). At the end of the day, I chose another set of AirPod Gen 3’s with AppleCare (why did I never do that before?) for $165 because while there are definitely things I prefer about the JBL’s, I’m too used to certain AirPods features (muting from the earbud, playback stopping if they fall out or are removed) to easily give them up now and I think the $23 AppleCare will ultimately make the higher price tag acceptable, as I should be able to get at least 3 years of 10-hour/day, problem-free functionality.

Recomendo!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound and silence quality!
I have been looking for some wireless headphones for a while now. Tried a few options under $100 but all of them were bad. Low audio quality, low voice quality or couldn't be heard in anything other than a quiet room, poor battery, poor connectivity, you name it. I was already set on increasing my budget to $150-$200 until I saw these JBL on sale for $70 (I think the original price was around $150) and knowing that JBL produce great sounding speakers figured I had nothing to lose by ordering them. They really hit the mark! for the money I paid I get very nice actual noise cancellation (I commute on subway to work and listen to podcasts) and great audio for music, podcasts, and conversations. Who ever I asked about the sound quality of my speech always replied I was crystal clear, no matter the surroundings (I'll admit that when standing next to a loud bus the quality diminishes, but that's just an outlier and no one, not even the $300 set, will be able to tune out that noise). They fit very snuggly in my ear and don't fall out even as I am pushed out the subway or working out. Pros: + great value for money + awesome audio + very good noise cancellation for the price cons: - haven't had any for now Overall, I highly recommend getting these if they're on sale! I don't know if I'd pay full price for them as they have competition once you go to the $150-$200 price range. Will come back in a few months and update if something's not right.
