Works well, dust cover could be improved.
Works really well, just insert the bearing, and press. The secret is steady, even pressure. You are trying to press wheel bearing grease through some fairly small holes, and through a bearing, so don't expect 'instant' results. What you can expect, is to get your bearing greased notably faster than by hand, and without a palm full of grease. Unused grease just sits at the bottom of the reservoir, waiting for the next bearing you have to pack. It seems large enough to fit any automotive bearing you'd come across, and farm equipment up to the front wheel bearings of an IH 1486 tractor. The cup is easy to fill, you can lift out the plunger, and scoop bearing grease into the reservoir with an old spoon, paint stir stick, etc, or via the standard grease nipple on the plunger itself, using whatever grease gun you have lying around. It works so well, I would like to give it 5 stars, except for one thing. The 'lid' or whatever you call it (the red thing that looks like a dust cap) does not fit over the top of the entire unit. Instead, it fits down into the packer, only covering the white plunger. In my opinion, a little bit of dust/dirt could get past the cover to the outer edge of the plunger. Granted, this will likely not contaminate the grease, but it could scratch up the sides of the clear outer shell, making it hard to see through clearly. Also, it will not shed water, any condensation that gets on the cover will not roll off the outside, but rather will stay inside the unit, at the top of the plunger. It is not a big deal, I just put a rag over the top to keep off the dust, and absorb any condensation, but it is still an annoyance. I am going to check out if the lid off an old peanut or small coffee can might not fit on top tight enough to work when I have the chance. Until then, the rag will be on top. If they'd make a little improvement on the cover, it would be a 5 star tool, as it works well, saving both time and messy hands.

A lot less mess and perfect for travel.
I’ve used these in the past and it was time to buy one finally. So glad I finally gave in and bought it. The quality is just like I remembered and so nice not having to mess with grease all over my hands. I looked at a few different designs but this one has the best design for the cost. The plastic housing is durable and so far no problems with any of the parts.

Must-Have Tool for Clean and Fast Bearing Packing
Picked up the Lisle 34550 Handy Packer and honestly, it’s one of those tools that just makes life easier in the shop. I use it mainly when doing hub service on trailers or medium-duty trucks, and it takes the mess and guesswork out of packing bearings. You just drop the bearing in, press the cap down, and it pushes grease perfectly through the rollers. No more slinging grease by hand or wondering if it’s packed enough. Build quality is solid, nothing fancy, but it holds up well. I’ve used it with both red and blue grease and haven’t had any issues cleaning it afterward. It’s especially useful when you’re doing multiple bearings back-to-back—it speeds things up a lot. If you’re doing wheel-end work even semi-regularly, this is a cheap tool that earns its keep fast. Definitely recommend it for anyone wrenching on fleets or trailers.

This is one of the best tools I've purchased as it really says in the tittle "handy packer". I have done quite a few greasy bearings and the mess it the worse part of it. The packing hurts your fingers the grease is everywhere. I have used the ones with the cone by connecting a grease gun but even then you still need to clean up the grease on the cone. Until i came across this, never even new about this until a recommendation. I liked the positive reviews but was skeptical on the size of bearings it would hold. Purchased and arrived and after noticing the size the size is about about 6 inches wide diameter. I thought it would be hard to insert grease into the packer but i was wrong. The packer can be easily filled with grease by a grease fun or just putting on a glove and scooping the grease inside because the grease can be easily left in without issues. Packing a bearing is easily as 3 steps. 1. Insert bearing (cone side down) 2. Put plunger on 3. Push down until grease comes out. Then your done. The plunger does take somewhat excessive force to push down. It's not something you will just squeeze together but will need somewhat of body force to push it down. I personally though that the grease would bypass the outer seal on the packer and make a mess. No. There was only a tiny bit of grease bypassing the seal. The grease remains inside for future use and has a cap that goes over it to prevent smell of grease. The mess is nothing compared to other methods especially the doing it by hand. The tool worked flawlessly and makes me wonder why i didn't buy this tool years ago. I can fully say this is a handy gadget everyone should have. No mess and easy clean up and a tool that makes me money. Love it.
