Cat Dancer Products 101 Interactive Cat Toy, Brown

***This review is for the one with the Wall mount , but same product and this product is referenced in review*** This is quite honestly, the most simple, cheap, annoyingly designed cat product ever made. That being said, it is the best money I have EVER spent for a cat toy. I can't recommend this highly enough. I have 3 male cats. (see video) Two of them, the black and white big one, Rocko, and the Orange skinny one, Fletch, are both 11 years old. The black and grey smaller one, Greggor, is 8 years old. They all have different personalities, like different toys, and are NOT easily amused. For instance, Rocko will chase the knot on the end of a 3 foot rope tied to the end of a 2 foot stick all day. Greggor may join in. Fletch will just watch. Fletch will play with those balls with the slits in them and the bells inside (of course only the pink ones) as well as the round toy where you bat the ball in a circle. Greggor, maybe will use the round toy where you bat the ball in the circle. Rocko, will just watch. Greggor on the other hand, LOVES those milk rings from plastic 1 gallon milk cartons. He will play with them nonstop. Rocko and Fletch. Nothing. So with all that being said, they are all mesmerized by this. When you get it, you will be like, what? This is it? And you will say WTF! (Sorry, but you will) I first bought the one with the sponge paw mounting device, which again, when you see it will say, "yeah...that will stay on the wall" and you will think what a cheap piece of junk. So you will then put it up, slide the little end in the paw, bend it appropriately and watch your cats go nuts. I use a little piece of duct tape to hold the top of the paw or the wire will slide out easier. But the cool thing is, just because you put the mount up, doesn't mean the dancer has to stay in it. You can remove it from the paw and use it with your hand or tape it to the end of a yard stick. I personally just bought another one without the paw and taped it to a stick. My advice to mounting are 2 things. One, mount it like in my video, in a door way. And Two, mount the paw right under a light switch that is usually right next to a doorway that way you can use duct tape to hold the end of the mounting device w/out sticking duct tape to your wall. It sticks on the light switch plate and the paw, hence not having duct tape sticking to your wall. Now as far as if the paw will remove paint from your wall if you move it. I DON'T KNOW. But as you will see in my video, I always have a calendar hanging there so if it does effect the paint, I don't really mind. Then again I don't see myself taking the paw off the wall unless it comes off on its own, then I will just re-hang it with double sided tape or buy another one. (watch the whole video and you will eventually see the paw mount toward the end of the video...I wasn't using the duct tape then and you may not, but Rocko wants to rip it down so the tape is needed. Kittens and smaller cats you may not need to use any tape) Of course all cats are not alike and some may not like it. But people, give them a chance. You may have to put it on a stick and wave it around for a while to get them used to it. I have one on a stick and one on the wall. I have noticed that they don't play with the one on the wall as much, mostly because it's not moving. But if you look in my video, I usually have a fan running hence, the thing moves so they are more apt to play with it when it's moving. But the one on the stick...if I take that one out they are all going nuts from the time I bring it out until they either tire out, or I put it away. (I usually tire out before them) Lastly, the coolest thing is, when against a dark background, it sometimes literally looks like its floating in mid air. The wire is thin and the little cardboard rolls make it look kind of like a moth flying around. The other neat thing is the wire is bendable so you can bend it in many places to get it to stand out from the wall, so in my video it sticks out into the doorway. Bottom line, just buy 2 of these off the bat. One with the paw and one without, unless you have 2 places you might want to mount it. I have one mounted on the wall and one on the end of a stick and my cats after a month are still in love with this thing. One last bit of advice, I wouldn't leave it up all the time as just like anything, they may get bored with it, especially when you introduce it to them. But remember, unless it's moving, they are less likely to play with it. So maybe even set up a little portable fan a couple feet away when you mount it to make it move. It's only been a month, but spending $7.21 for both (I get free shipping with Prime) was the BEST money I have ever spent for a cat toy. They could sell this for $15.99 and if mine wore out or broke, which I can't see happening anytime soon, I'd still buy another one. If your skeptical, just buy one, pay the extra $1.19 for the sponge mounting paw and see if your cat(s) like it. Hope this long review and video helps! Happy hunting for your cat(s)!

OK it's a piece of wire with some paper on either end. But it's somehow perfect; the wire makes the paper bounce around erratically like a bug, and it drives the kitties wild! Our cats can't get enough, even the one who isn't interested in dangling toys will chase this enthusiastically! No sharp edges, no tangles. Based on the materials it seems like $8 is a lot for 2 toys, but based on how much the cats like it, Cat Dancer is a great value!

Hands-Down, this is the BEST cat toy our cats have ever had! It is so simple but makes my nine cats all go crazy. They do shred the little bits of cardboard eventually, but it is cheap enough I can replace it as needed. They do hold up well though! I just ordered three more so we always have one on hand, and they make the perfect little gift for the cat lovers in your life. Our cats love this toy so much that I had to start keeping it in my room with the door shut, because they would tear up the house to get to it when I set it in a cabinet or on top of the fridge to put it away before. Even my two elderly cats perk up when this toy comes around, and our youngest cats will play with it for hours. I love that it is interactive but requires very little “movement” or skill to get your cats going. My cats will play with it by themselves if I leave it out, but I far prefer to use the toy with them and get the giant kitty leaps and jumps.

This is probably the best $3 cat toy I've ever purchased! I'm a cat mom of two, my oldest is turning 16 in April and my youngest just turned 2. They're very much on opposite ends of the age spectrum! My youngest absolutely loves it, but that's not a surprise because she's still young and loves to play (and she loves anything made of cardboard). The surprise came when I busted it out and my grumpy old man came to life! He's 15, going on 16 in four months, but playing with this he looks just like he did when he was younger and it brought me to tears. Because of his age we do shorter play sessions with frequent breaks so it's not strenuous on his heart (he has a heart murmur and some fluid in his lungs that he takes medication for), but he loves jumping and batting at the little pieces of cardboard, and it's keeping him active in his old age which is good for his health. He absolutely loves the Cat Dancer! The only other toy he loves more than this is his chirping birdie that he insists on carrying around with him everywhere. I put the Cat Dancer toy up when we aren't playing with it for safety reasons, but I'm convinced if I left it out he would carry that around, too! He doesn't jump 5 feet in the air like he used to (he's an older fellow afterall!), but I haven't seen him this excited about an interactive toy in years. His vision isn't great anymore, so he would just lay and move in a semicircle when playing with a laser pointer. He just wasn't that into it and I think a little bored. A regular wand toy never caught his attention either. But I think because of the material the Cat Dancer is made of he can hear it as it sort of flutters by him. I'm so happy with thus purchase and will order more when this one falls apart. I wish the end you hold onto was a little sturdier, but I think if it had more of a handle on it that might prevent the toy from "dancing" properly. My youngest is a terror and its held up fine with her rougher play. Anytime she sees me get into the drawer where I keep the toy she starts chirping and gets so excited! This is a great toy for bonding time with your fur babies. I'm especially grateful for the playtime it's given me with my oldest. It's been such a joy watching him perk up and get that playful look I'm his eyes again.

I have purchased dozens and dozens of these cat toys over the years. Every single cat we've used them with, has loved this toy. We rescue and foster stray kittens and cats, and work with a local rescue group that then puts these kittens and cats up for adoption. While they are in our care, we love to play 'wire bug' with them (we call it 'wire bug'). The kittens and cats go crazy for this simple toy. I love that the toy is affordable - I send a new one along with every stray that goes into the adoption program, so their new family will have their favorite toy ready to go. I also love the simplicity of this toy. The wire is springy enough to make the 'wire bug' at the end appear to fly and scamper - which the cats love. We have our own pet cat who loves this toy so much, she plays with it herself - chasing it in circles and circles, and she carries it throughout our house (even up and down the stairs), looking for someone to play with her. We built a cat-scratching post and found a way to secure this toy to the top of the post. This allows the cats to play with the toy even when we're not in the room. Kittens play with the toy for long periods of time - jumping, pouncing, and chasing. They really love it! After about a year of heavy use, the cardboard pieces at the end get pretty chewed up, and a few of them fall off. But before that happens, the toy has been WELL used for a long time! When these pieces fall off, we just attach another toy to the end (such as a small catnip mouse), and the toy can still be used. In the meantime, I buy new 'wire bug' toys to replace the old ones. When I first show this toy to new cat families, they think I'm crazy for recommending such a simple toy, but once they try it with their new cat, they too see just how enjoyable this toy is for the cat. I really can't recommend this toy enough! I also recommend you buy at least 3 of them, so you always have one on-hand. ;-) Have fun with your cat!

My cats LOVE this toy. They are usually pretty lazy or disinterested in a lot of toys, but both of my cats were immediately interested. Typically, one of my cats is timid when our other cat begins to play with something, but not the Cat Dancer. She really wants in on the fun and plays right along with him. My only complaints is that this isn't terribly friendly for people with certain physical limitations. The "handle" is just another of the rolled up cardboard and fatigues my fingers. The other more important thing to me is that the wire could be quite a bit longer. I have to bend to really get the toy to touch the ground and move it around for the kitties. All-in-all, great toy though. So simple but insanely effective!

I don’t know why I bother with any other toy because this one is a hit with all 3 of my orange menaces to society. The 15 pounder will play with it by himself for hours which is a huge deal considering he’s now 5 and hardly can be bothered to play with any other toy for extended periods of time. His 7 lb sister is also obsessed with it, provided she can wrest it away from him. And finally, the newest addition, our 6 week old kitten has a toy that both his big brother and sister will let him play with at the same time as them. And I love it because it’s cheap and durable and provides endless entertainment for me, watching the three of them skitter around trying to “kill” it. I have to take my metaphorical hat off to whoever invented this piece of piano wire with little bits of cardboard — you’re a genius, whoever you are.

This is basically a flexible piece of wire with a little bit of cardboard or fluff on the end, and somehow it is one of my cats’ favorite toys. They go absolutely nuts for it. The movement is unpredictable enough to keep their attention, and it is easy to use without needing batteries, noise, or a complicated setup. It is also small and easy to put away when we are done playing. I honestly did not expect much because it looks so simple, but my cats love it far more than many of their more expensive toys.
