Will the unit play cd's as well, or only blu ray and dvd formats? if so what formats are supported (for sd and usb connections)?

It plays DVDs . To play blue rays you must have an HD tv with USB ports and usb cable. I haven't try playing a cd. It is not a good unit, instructions are copied from original. I wouldn't buy again.

Is it compatible with my car android player with usb ?

The player has HDMI and composite (RCA) NTSC video out , if you car Android player has either of those inputs it will work

does this unit have optical input

No this unit does not have any inputs, it is not a recorder so doesn't need inputs. Have 2 AV outputs, 1 coaxial output and 1 HDMI output. On some units when for example using component output, the HDMI output is disabled, but not on this player, All outputs works regardless if using one or all at the same time.
