My First Keyboard - Learn To Play: Kids

I bought this for my 8 year old grandson. He has shown an interest in my old untuned piano. Decided to buy a keyboard to be more current. This book is fabulous for kids. It introduces one note and one other concept (like a quarter note) at a time. Baby steps. He loves learning this and is so proud of himself. Today he played a new piece for the first time and nailed it on the first try! As a former elementary school teacher, my philosophy was always "keep it simple, make it fun". That's what this book does. It won't be long before he can start using special keyboard buttons. He will love it as he has played around with these features and loves the sounds he can create. Best way for a child to learn something that will last a lifetime

My daughter wanted a keyboard for Christmas, so I got this book to go along with it. In just a few hours, she was playing Mary Had a Little Lamb and a few other songs. The book is easy to read and understand, and my daughter says it's fun. It teaches how to read sheet music and beginners chords, and other things that will be helpful if she decides to take lessons. Well worth the price!

The ebonies and the ivories are living together in perfect harmony side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don’t we? I am glad this fabulous tutorial teaches children songs like “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and not songs from Pretty Hate Machine or from Marilyn Mansons or some of the real rappy songs! In my opinion rap music should not be taught to young children playing piano or French horn, even though raps are just poems set to a phat beat. Still, keep that nonsense away from my baby grand! That being said I did see DJ Baby Grand at a hip-hop battle in Encino last March and it was SICK. I’m glad this book teaches most of the notes like A and C and G, but the inclusion of E# is absurd.

Great book for beginners. I had bought another one that said beginners as well and it definitely was NOT. This one is easy to read and easy to understand, even my daughters piano teacher said this is a good one to learn from. It teaches you the keys, hand placement, how to read the notes. My daughter can pick it up and start learning the next song with no problem.

This book is very helpful. My 9 year old wanted a Keyboard for Christmas, I did not want the keyboard to just sit and gather dust days after he opened it. I purchased this Learn To Play book to ensure he would use the keyboard, constructively. It definitely lived up to my hopes. My son is using it to play tunes on the keyboard. I would recommend this book to anyone purchasing a keyboard for a first time user. It provided my son with structured play, he is learning the keys.

Not as straight forward as I wanted

This book is easy to read and geared toward a child. It simplifies note reading and introduces simple hand positions for each note. You should get the note stickers for the keys just to make it easier for the beginning student. My daughter is using this book to learn to play and it is helping her to understand the basics.

This book is well written, fun, and is helping my boys learn to play.

Bought this for my nephew for Xmas as he is getting a keyboard. Looks like a lovely, easy to follow book - nice clear diagrams and photos, ideal for kids, and easy well-known tunes for him to play. He's going to love this !
