Will XXL fit a 17 year olds size 16 wide foot?

I purchased these for a young man who wears a size 17 shoe and there is plenty of room in length and width with room to spare.

I'm using shoe size 9 and from size chart both medium and large should fit. best to buy medium or large for best fit??

I personally bought a large and I'm a size 11.5 I don't know if this helps. Buy both the large and the medium and try them out. Free returns on the orders. Best way to really know is to try them both out and return the one that least fits you.
