I purchased this as a present for my friend’s 5 year old son. Stanley's original adventure never ceases to amuse me and any child I have read it to for the first time has always found a lot of fun within these pages. Yes, we can tell that the story is taking place in some that took place much earlier than our "here and now" and while contemporary when written it now adds a sense of vintage charm to the story. When things were simpler, when people were politer and when they sorted out their grievances right quick even if it did involve a push and a shove. The old-fashionedness didn't bother my son at all and I found it rather quaint. Stanley has fun adventures being flat; his brother Arthur is jealous at first but in the end Stanley just wants to be his regular self. A fun story that started "The Flat Stanley Project". The illustrations in this book are nice but they are not the originals which I will always prefer. Fun book for early chapterbook readers with several more in this series plus a couple of spin-off series.

Absolutely delightful book for elementary readers. A little boy who is squished to one-inch flat obviously suspends rules of logic and reality; on the other hand, the story and writing style allow the imagination some room to explore and delight. What a fun book tested by time (50 years) and enjoyed by my 7-year-old and me (77 years old). Highly recommend.

This is the cute story of a little boy named Stanley. He wakes up one morning flat. He was flattened by a bulletin board that fell on him. Stanley finds many advantages to being flat- he is able to catch art robbers and be flown as a kite. He also finds many disadvantages to being flat. This book is a great book for opening discussion with your child-What are the advantages of being you? What do you wish you could change? How can you change? and so on. This is also a great book for letting your child make his own flat stanley and send it off to friends for an adventure. Many schools are doing this now. A great way to teach geography. There is a website based on this type of activity a search for flat travelers should bring it up. Well worth the money. Enjoy.
