Lots of good information here and the section on "film" is often missing from other books. This "film" section provides students with an opportunity to understand the world of film making prior to the DSLR revolution and digital film and that makes the process, terminology and workflow much easier to understand. This is a good textbook for beginning and introductory film and video production classes. It covers all of the basics with accurate information and doesn't dive too deep into any one discipline. Use any chapter as required reading before introducing a new unit in production and your students will have some context for the subject.

I had to get this textbook for my filmmaking class. Honestly it's pretty great. It's very detailed and useful, and I do suggest anyone who is going into this sort of field of study to take a look at this book!

what an amazing in depth book. let me say i work in tbe field of cinematography already. out of curiosity i wanted to learn about the gaffer, grip, ad roles etc. this book will literally keep you motivated to want to turn to the next page. the detailed photos of examples used in film are extra grrat. i highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn about film and the technical aspects.

I actually found this book to be very helpful. The chapters were a little dry at times but the information was good and it worked well with the class I was taking.

This is a great book on teaching you the basics of filmmaking. This book helps give you information on choosing good gear and learning how to use it. Plus so much more.

This was required for a college course I am taking, and it was able to get it cheaper here than on my school's bookstore website! The product itself is great, very informative with lots of good real-life examples. A must-read for anyone studying film.

So accessible! Reads more like a novel than a textbook. A fascinating text that makes a complex subject fun and easy to grasp.
