Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read.
I cannot stress enough how great this book is. MacArthur really did well in bring the story of the disciples to life, showing how these ordinary men played extremely important roles in the narrative of Jesus' ministry leading to his death on the cross. The examination of the bible and the accounting of the disciples across the four gospels and into Acts provides a core understanding from the word, how these men learned and grew while following Jesus and ultimately sharing the Gospel with the world in the early church. In particular, I was moved and convicted when reading the narrative of Andrew, Peter's brother, particularly in how Jesus used Andrew to connect Peter, the rock upon which the early church was led. Additionally, the half-chapter on Thomas nearly brought me to tears, it is extremely moving. Can not recommend this book enough.

Love this book!
I really enjoyed this book. This is the 2nd one I've read from this author and just ordered a 3rd. The author is very knowledgeable and gives great info without it being too overwhelming. I read it with a friend and we both really enjoyed it. Felt like I know the 12 apostles more!

Ordinary Men, Transformed Lives
An insightful and deeply reflective read that journeys through the lives of the twelve apostles, tracing their calling, growth, and transformation. What begins with ordinary men unfolds into a powerful picture of disciples shaped, refined, and sent with purpose. Each chapter invites thoughtful introspection, highlighting the subtle and profound shifts in their heart postures as God worked in and through them. This book serves as a meaningful mirror for believers, reminding us that God delights in transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary for His Kingdom and His glory.

The Son of Man as Jesus called Himself, KNEW WHO to call!
Author now deceased, but a reputable writer of Christian books. I gave this book to my adult son when he asked me, "What was so great about those local guys Jesus chose to follow him?" MacArthur gives HIS explanation! Jesus sent them out ALL OVER the known world! Since I bought myself a copy, I followed their journeys on a map. "I stand all amazed" at the areas the original 12 covered. This book doesn't go into the 13th apostle, Paul, but his life can be found in other books.

The book really show us a different perspective of the life of those 12 men. How the Lord shaped each one of them, except for Judas Iscariotes, in the same way He does today, but perhaps in a more intense way. Transforming ordinary and miserable men into valuable tools in his mighty hand. Making sinful men able to follow the steps of the Master and share his loving gospel to the world. I recommend it.
