Why Did I Not Get This A Long Time Ago?????
This is a great product and please bear with me - first time doing a video and this type of product review but felt this one was worth it! I got this because health reasons require a change of diet and food preparation and although I love cooking I hate the preparation. So, being told vegetables and fruits (heavy on the FRESH vegetables) would now be playing a big part in my life did not make me happy. I can't tell you what exactly made me settle on the Mueller product but 4.9 out of 5 stars tells you I am happy I did - we will get to the .1 in a minute. This product is wonderful - the video is not great and probably my first and last as I suck at it, I didn't even show the product up front, but it is the Mueller Onion Chopper Pro, don't know why they call it that because it chops EVERYTHING! I was standing in the video, but during this entire session which was a little under two hours, I washed and prepared a 3 lb bag of onions, a 3 lb bag of carrots, 2 large heads of celery, 2 large green peppers, 1 large red pepper, and 1 large orange pepper. I wasn't sure how small I needed to cut the pieces, so I tried to size them to fit the opening of the cutter blade. Yes, you do have to do some preparation, but all that small dicing and cutting is gone forever and that is what I hated. I thought if I could take an hour or so at the beginning of the week and get all the vegetables cut that would save at least 20 minutes of prep time per meal. In the end, I have enough vegetables for at least 2 weeks, not 1. I will be adding white potatoes and sweet potatoes soon, but need to do some research on how best to preserve them. This product is a lifesaver. The picture does not show an additional package of mixed peppers, another package of onions, and another package of carrots and celery mixed, all this was done at one time - I am truly amazed with this product. Now, let's talk about safety. They give you ample warnings. Remember one size of the blade is very, very sharp. My only complaint about this product and it could be my fault that I didn't figure it out is there was no way to store the blades within the container - that is my -.1. The product is easy to use, very sturdily built, easy to clean, and does not take a huge amount of strength to use. After the video, I was sitting down except to cut the top part of a couple of large carrots. It does not say it is okay to sit down. I am older and have a problem standing. I was seated at a regular, sturdy table with the product placed on the table and I was seated correctly. I very easily used the product with no problem, so I say for us "oldies, but goodies" this is a great product or for those who have a problem standing and have put off cooking because of food preparation - go for it, but be sensible. Great product, make it your next buy!

A good mandoline with a lot of options, but has some drawbacks
This mandolin is phenomenal. I have 3 of the Swissmar Borner mandolins that are much more expensive. The reason that I have 3 of them is that each has options the others don't have. This mandolin covers the cutting options of the 3 Borner mandolins and then some. Both have German blades and are manufactured in Germany. So they are comparable in this aspect. Some of the things I love about this set are: - it includes a waffle cutting blade that I had bought separately for the Borner sets - it has two different shredding blades that the other set don't include - the blades are every bit as sharp as the Borner blades - thicknesses of cuts are adjustable which is one reason I had one of the Borner sets - It includes a stand that can be used or not depending on the job. This is not an option on the Borner mandolins - I have all the blades I would ever want without storing multiple sets - The cost of this set is much less than the Swissmar Borner mandolins, but offers many more options So far, I couldn't be happier with this mandolin, and would highly recommend it. I can't imagine why the Swissmar Borner sets cost so much more unless it it just because of publicity. UPDATE 8/01/18 I bought this mandoline in Feb. 2017, and have used it periodically as needed. This year, I have been using it a lot more for slicing veggies, such as beets, zucchini, squash, etc., that we buy from local farmers. At this time of year, we buy a lot of these veggies that I blanch, package, and freeze for the winter. Although I still love all of the options for cutting vegetables offered by this mandoline, there is one thing I don't like about it that isn't included in the product page description. I have added pictures to this review to illustrate what I will attempt to describe here. On the top of the mandoline, there are slots that you can adjust blades to come through for julienne cutting (Pic #1). The blades you can choose provide two different widths for julienne cutting (Pics #2 & #3). Under the mandoline, there is a cover you can open for cleaning that covers the blades so you don't get cut on exposed blades (Pic #4). When the cover is opened, the blades are exposed for cleaning (Pic #5). I can see where it would be necessary to open the blade cover to clean the blades when you use them for julienne cutting. What i don't like is that this area must be cleaned even if you are using only the slicing blades since the juices and particles from what you are slicing go into the slots on the top of the mandoline. The blades under the mandoline are very sharp, and the slots on top are not often easy to clean. Although I do still like the many options available for this mandoline, I am tempted to buy a mandoline that would be strictly for slicing and easier to clean. One other feature that I very much like is that this mandoline was designed to fit securely over bowls or pots of different sizes so that you can slice directly into a vessel. This can eliminate a lot of mess especially when slicing something like beets. As for the cleaning problem with food getting into the julienne blade area, I fold a paper towel and slide it under slots of the base and above the julienne blades. Any juices that go through the base unit slots are absorbed by the paper towel which spares me having to clean the julienne blades every time I slice foods. All in all, I am still loving this mandoline.

Works smoothly except for long direction slicing like zucchini
I had another brand of mandolin slicer when working in Canada that I had to leave behind. This works as well or better than that with the exception of long slicing vegetables like zuchinni. One thing I use this for is making low carb zucchini lasagna. The other slicer had a recess in the top holder to use with cyclindrical vegetables on their side that allowed the pins to grabe the vegetables. This is flat across and the grid on the pusher does not engage the food and grip it. I had to use my thumb to push on the end of the food carefully and towards the end pull the remaining portion through. I did not want to add any of my protein to the meal... Other than that, it works great and will fit over some bowls. I wish they would make a bowl designed for this. Especially the long slices do not go into the bowl well as they hit the end of the bowl while slicing. Other foods work well. Mincing or dicing foods such as onions goes easily and one trick I use on items I want to dice is to make some cross cuts in the food so that the ends are not long strips. This is the same for all of these slicers, not just Mueller. Once that is done the dicing goes smoothly. Cleaning is easy except for the thin notches in the bed where the built in knives come up. You need a small bush to reach in there, but that cleans it up quickly. Nice unit.

Great slicer, but hard to clean
A great mandoline slicer with a wider range of thickness options than most slicers. The only issue I have is the slicer is impossible to fully clean. It only partially disassembles. Slicing persimmons leaves it a mess. Not even a soaking in an ultrasonic cleaner with 409 removes persimmon residue.

Smaller than expected but worked.
My first impression on seeing the product package was, โWow, this thing is smaller than I thought.โ After taking it out of the package it was, โYep, pretty small, not going to do much onions with this.โ I have now processed over 50 lbs. of onions over the last few days. So, I think I have enough experience to do a review worth something. My first recommendation is that if you are going to chop up a couple of onions for a meal, not to use this. While cleaning is not that hard, by the time you get it cleaned up, you could have simply chopped the onions with a good knife. The second thing is not to expect to chop a medium to large whole onion at one time. Wonโt happen. I have a small garden and the reason I purchased this chopper was to process some onions to freeze. Before, I used a food processor and it pretty much just turned the onions to mush and they froze solid like a brick. I wanted something that would be more consistent and not create so much onion juice. I was not too sure this would work for me though. The finer blade seemed like it would cut the chunks a little too big. I definitely thought this was going to take a lot longer than expected because of how small it was. My first task was to figure out the best way to get the onions chopped and not just end up as long slices of onions. A little thought behind how an onion was laid out and how the device was going to push the onion through the blade I came up with my plan and stuck to it. You can see the results in the pictures I have attached to the review. Now for some details. Letโs take an onion. One of my typical onions is about 3-4 inches as in the pic with the ruler and onion. After the onion is peeled, you can see that it is a little large to go through the chopper whole. I cut the top and bottom off the onion, then cut down the middle. Laying the two ends flat I quartered each half. I found that placing a quarter chunk on the blades as shown would produce consistent chunks as can be seen by the pic with the chopped onion next to a ruler. The chunk size turns out to be just about the right size for cooking. Using this process, I peeled, cleaned, cut, and chopped about 20 lbs. of onions in about 3 hours this session. Cleanly cut the onions and extraordinarily little juice at all. Some onions are tougher than others. These may take a little more downward pressure than others. Do not try to use too big of chunks in the device. Keep them the size shown for best results. I quartered about 6-8 onions at a time and then used the device to chop them. The container that the onions fall in is small and does not take long to fill up. However, it was easy to just remove the top part and empty the onion into a bowl and continue. The bottom container is very clear and has 4 small rubber feet that does a good job of keeping it from sliding around on the table. I was not too sure how it would hold up. Except for the actual blades, it is all plastic. The blade and pusher part were easy to put in. The plastic seems to be very hard and showed no wear at all after all of these onions. Blade still seems to be sharp. It was easy to take apart to clean. The main section was easy to just rinse off. The blade section was also handled by just rinsing. The โpusherโ section took a little more effort to clean. Even though they supplied a little brush to help get between the crevices, it was easier to simply soak it in water and then firmly tap the section against something solid to knock out all of the bit and pieces of onion that was lodge in between. Nothing to rust so I just dabbed off the excess water and packed away for the next time. Overall, it chopped consistent sized chunks. Onions were left in much better shape than a food processor. Even though it could not take too much onion at a time, it really did not take that long. I like the design and the functionality. Seemed durable and well made. I will use it again the next time. I now have peppers to do. I expect these will go just as well. I would love to see a larger stainless-steel device like this for those having to process a lot of onions. As a note, I am just about over a case of COVID-19. While I hope that it is temporary, it left me with literally no smelling capability at all โ making doing all these onions a breeze :o) I would definitely recommend to others.

Everything but the kitchen sink in one item!
After having another brand German V-Slicer Mandoline for over 30 years I decided to upgrade. My old one did not have legs & you only had 2 slicing thicknesses to choose from. I liked that this one's thickness choices are adjustable. I also liked that this one could replace my box grater with the extra grating plates it comes with. I've used this a few times now and I have several things I don't like about it. I do not like the safety holder at all: I tried to julienne a carrot and the safety holder was useless as it wouldn't even hold a carrot. I'll have to get one of those "cut-proof" kitchen gloves to use with it. I found that when using my bare hand (until it got to an unsafe level) this mandoline did a good job slicing potatoes and was easy to use. But when I tried using it with the safety holder it hardly held onto my potato! I was able to use some of the grating plates successfully. This julienne cutter is really not comfortable to use. I measured and the points to cut julienne are 1" away from the *top* of the slicing blade at it's highest point and you have to go much further to get the blade to finish the julienne. My old mandoline had the julienne points right at the point of the cutting blade for immediate cut off. I have to say that I am disappointed in this. Maybe I'll like it better with the cut proof glove. I hope so because that's gonna be the only way I'll be using it!

Faster sharper chopping
This has cut my chopping time down to a third for the time it was taking me previously. I make lots of pickles and it was taking me so long to chop everything but this is fantastic! I use this for tomatoes, sliced first then put in, then onions in half then pushed through, works a treat in no time. I also use it to chop cauliflower for pickles and it has been just awesome, so glad I brought this!
