WIRE TRACER
Great tool. Found missing line covered by sheetrock in new construction. Saved lots of time & money!!

Very weak tracer
Came with dead batteries. The tone unit uses two AAA and one of the two batteries has to be jammed into the unit so it's very difficult to remove. The probe unit uses four LR44 cells, which is a pain, and they are also very difficult to remove/replace. You have to pry them out with a knife. Even with brand-new batteries, the tone is so weak that it can't even identify which 6" bundle a CAT5 cable is in, if the cable is on the other side of the bundle from the probe. It absolutely, positively will NOT find cables in walls. You basically have to stick the probe directly into the RJ45 wall jack to get a tone, and I could have used my $15 plug-in cable identifier to do that. The probe has a tiny flush-mount button that has to be constantly held down during operation. Very annoying. Even though it's a tiny button that itself doesn't require much pressure, the fact that it's flush mount means you have to press unnecessarily hard, so your thumb gets sore. Both the tone and probe are black and dark red in color, if you put them down in a crawlspace they disappear. The tip of the tone unit will mark up painted walls. Bottom line: Not worth messing around with.

Not great. Can spend less for roughly the same product.
I first tried a generic cable tester from Amazon for roughly $25. It was good at tracing network cables but horrible at coax. This GB version (for $20 more) was only okay at networking cable and also horrible at coax (even though the GB has a coax interface on board). The tone sound is hard to hear, even at max volume. It appears the AAA batteries for the transmitter came very low, and since the receiver uses 4 'watch' batteries which I don't have lying around, I can't see if changing the batteries improves anything. I'm returning this one & moving up again, this time to a GreenLee model, but that is around $100 so I hope it's worth it. IMO the transmitter needs some juice, so 2 - AAA batteries won't cut it.

Cheap but it works
This unit is super cheap. I have never been able to close it since i used it the first time. The probe has a volume knob but even at it's highest level it is barely audible. Great product if you only need to use it once. But for serious wiring and tracing jobs, do yourself a favor and spend more money elsewhere.

Watch the watch batteries
Works great, the only drawback is : Difficult to get batteries in to receiver, and new batteries almost equal purchase price.

Find the Hole!
Look, are your pockets short like mine were? Well the price is Right on this BOB! it's been a few years and I'm still using it just fine. It holds up fine and hasn't failed me once. Just change the batteries as directed and you'll be tracing out ports in no time!
