Will this unit work with carrier myinfinty smart thermostat?

The Honeywell Home Smart Room Sensor is designed to work with the T9 and T10 Smart Thermostat only. -Jerry

Can this control hydronic zone valves? So say for example the upstairs is much hotter than downstairs. The valves upstairs will be shutoff.

This device itself does not control anything. This is just a sensor. This combined with a T9 or T10 thermostat work great for homes with improperly configured zones, or if there was remodeling done that change the heating dynamics of the rooms so to say ( like me removing the sliding glass door in the bedroom and opting for an energy efficient window ). Lets say room A has the t9 thermostat and room b is 1/2 the size of a and has not thermostat but is part of the same zone as A. Room b is bound to get much hotter than A ( assuming no other variables ) Buy one of these and stick in it B and you can now tell the thermostat to listen to this sensor in room b to make room b comforitable.

Assuming I have a T9 installed, can the sensors be used to trigger events on other devices?

Yes it absolutely can! Don't forget that there is a motion sensor in there and with HomeKit, you can use these sensors to trigger any number of additional actions!

is a C-wire or C-wire adapter needed?

This sensor wirelessly connects to your T9 and T10 thermostat. The thermostat its self will need a c-wire. -Joey
