The first book in this series, Self-Therapy, brought Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) to both therapists and the general public. IFS is a powerful and user-friendly method of therapy, which can be done on your own. Self-Therapy, Vol. 3 shows how IFS can be used to transform a variety of important psychological issues. You donโt need to have read Vol 2. If you have been using IFS with your clients or in your own inner work, this book will help you to heal and transform eating issues, procrastination, the inner critic, depression, perfectionism, anger, communication, and more. Review: Jay Earley has done it again! - This is a valuable guide to take on your personal growth journey! Self Therapy Vol. 3 give the reader a clear Internal Family Systems ( IFS) lens to help when you are struggling with different extreme parts of yourself taking over you and feeling like you only these strong feelings and emotions: the anger, the depression the perfectionism has taken over and all those feeling that accompany those extreme emotions are running through your body. It is hard to tell which direction to turn to feel better. Jayโs book give a clear roadmap to understand if this could be a part that is trying to protect you from feeling something even more painful or it could be a deep attachment wound from earlier in your life that keeps getting triggered by your present situation and choices. I especially like when the book guide you to wonder about your depression. Is it grief from a loved oneโs death or is it grief from the state of the world or existential or spiritual grief? He even discusses the depression as due to possibly losses associated with ageing and how that can trigger up grief. There is a section about activating your aliveness when you just donโt think you have any aliveness the gives hope at a time when there doesnโt feel like there is any. Also, tied in with this book is the support Jay Earley offers through his online personal growth programs. These programs present you the tools to support you in your personal growth work and psychological healing. Review: A must have in your IFS library - I LOVE this book. It's A LOT to take in but it's so worth it. What Richard Schwartz doesn't discuss in certain details, Jay filled in. A must have in one's library to refer whenever we unintentionally forget.

Welcoming and Healing all Parts of Ourselves
All volumes are excellent. Highly recommend. For info on Internal Family Systems see selfleadership.org and read articles there by founder Richar Schwartz. I don't know anyone who would not benefit from ifs, from trauma survivors to couples, to people who want more comfort and joy in their lives. Schwartz describes how he discovered IFS and the philosophy and Earley writes these manuals that explain how to use it for self-healing and understanding/compassion for self and others.

A validating, easy-to-read book
This book is very well organized. It covers a lot of information in an easy-to-read, concise manner. It includes transcripts of session to give you a flavor of how a session might go, as well as many exercises that are designed to help you become aware of the parts/emotions that you have within you so you can know how to work with them and keep track of where youโre at. It also summarizes lots of information with the use of neat diagrams for easy visual reference and review. I read Self-Therapy which explains the basics of IFS, but even if you didnโt I think this book provides just the right amount of reference to those basics so you can still gain tremendously from reading this book alone. Self-Therapy 3 goes into detail of patterns and parts that arise around specific issues. It differentiates between different the types of parts that might arise around a common conflict, but the work of getting past those blocks is no different than what is presented in the main Self-Therapy book. I find it very validating to read about my intense emotions and how they play out, what I can expect from them, how they are likely to respond in any given situation. This automatically cuts down the amount of resistance that would otherwise naturally arise when trying to resolve inner conflicts, especially those that involve inner critics. What I especially like about this book, as well as the others in the series, is that it is written for everyone. It does not read like a psychology textbook. It talks to you, not about you, making it very easy to connect to the information on a personal level and apply it to your life in a step by step, slow, gentle, and compassionate manner.
