Anyone know if the handle on the lid is removable for easy storage

The handle is fitted with screw. So no it is not removable, it is not made to be removed. Unless you want keep your screwdriver handy every time .

What size is the cooking area

You can cook four average size burgers on the grill side .. veg etc on the flat side.. we use it outside under the gazebo for a quick cook instead of the bbq .

You’re correct. Surprising that they’ve made such a basic mistake. However these dimensions are the overall size in inches. The cooking area is 10 by 15.7 inches or 254 by 400 mm. Hope that helps.
