No, the sound is generated entirely from the USB port, whilst the sound is excellent, the lack of an audio input port has severely limited the use of this device for me!

Will this work with a dell laptop model no 1hk3p bought in april2013, can't find any other numbers unfortunately?

I believe it should as it only requires a usb socket for power and sound,also the clip that attaches it to the lap should fit most laptops too, i think when they advertise these things they only print some laptop numbers and people believe that the item will only fit the laptops that are listed. hope this helps. could you reply to let people know if it fitted or not, thanks.

Why doesn't it work on my lenovo thinkpad edge

It worked on my Lenovo Ideapad ok. Maybe it's faulty. Anyway, I found it didn't increase the volume to any extent.
