Will it work with my 6lbs toy poodle?

It will work, but you might go with a narrower sliplead for a toy dog too. I find anything smaller than 1/4" is harder for me to hang onto. It's important to teach your dog to walk on leash without pulling, or ANY sliplead or slipcollar will choke the dog. I'm a professional dog trainer and I always teach small dogs and puppies to walk on leash using a plain flat collar to start with. Once they learn to walk without pulling, then and only then will I introduce a slip lead. How? When the dog starts to pull, stop where you are. When pulling stops, continue walking. They learn pulling doesn't move you, so they learn not to do it.
