Great product works great I have printed several cards with it.

We shopped around for a cheaper but good ID printer! This one works well and the printer ribbon last a long time. Program is also easy to use.

print quality is gorgeous, the down side to this particular smart-21 model is that i can't find the ribbon to be bought by itself, we're a small group and use the rfid cards for electronic doors and the only ribbon refill option currently available has a bundled pack of 100 pvc cards we don't need. it also seems to be limited to 100 prints per roll of ribbon. and amazon doesn't seem to sell the right model directly searching the website is a tad confusing as well. giving several ribbon options with little details and no links to actually buy them. initially bought the wrong ribbon despite the box labeling saying the same thing except the code sticker, which also isn't clearly labelled that it's for the smart-31 or smart-51 printers, but the ribbon that it came with does say S21 COLOR Ribbon. also using the diagnostic software that came with the device, it acknowledges the new ribbon as full with 250 prints but then the printer fails when trying which would be a lot less confusing if it simply said that the ribbon has an error or that it's the wrong type. support was very responsive and helpful with all of the information presented and directed me to the wrong ribbon issue. aside from the supplies issue and confusing labeling (the bottom sticker even has smart31 in some areas) the printer is simple, easy, and fast. we were able to create a fillable pdf in the size and orientation of the card to quickly make new badges whenever needed without worrying about accidental design or word placement changes.

Don't buy! The software is absolute garbage. Useless and cheap design software. You can tell they just wanted to hurry up production to sell these paperweights. Do NOT waste your time or money. The software sucks and it's useless without the design software.

As for the printer it has top-notch print quality, easy to operate and change the ribbon. The image quality is fantastic, and I’m perfectly happy with the speed. Installation of drivers was fine and once installed didn’t have any issues. The software is a little hokey when you try to rotate images. Evidently 90CW, 90CC and 180 degree rotations work differently than any other imaging software. I had to rotate the image 90 degrees like 4 times to get it oriented correctly. That was tolerable. So why the 3 stars? Two main reasons, costs of consumables and bad information from multiple sites including Amazon on printer capabilities. 1. My use for this printer was going to be for custom card decks. The laser and inkjet printers just don’t do good quality and it’s a pain having to print, cut and/or sticker cards. I didn’t need true poker card sizes so the 2x3 ID cards was fine for my needs. However I didn’t need 30mil and was looking for 15mil capability. All my research came back where this printer had a thickness adjuster and could print thinner cards. That was not the case and caused me to end up buying a new orange roller due to that incorrect information. This printer will ONLY print on 30mil cards. I shared that with IDP support but just got reasons why the websites commonized the capabilities across multiple models. 2. The consumables are very expensive and the replacement 100 cards + ribbon is single sided only. You can manually print double sided using the printer but each side could as a print. So a deck of double sided cards is a full ribbon, $60. I asked if there was an option to buy just the ribbon only without the cards due to this issue, and the answer was no. The Orange roller that I had to replace weighed less than a few onces; however the cost was almost $70 and $26 was for shipping. Supposedly this rolled is a consumable and needs to be replaced periodically. I’m keeping the printer since I’ve already invested so much money in it and the consumables but would recommend doing more research on different models if you don’t just print single sided 30mil ID cards.

This is a great ID printer, used for our small private school. Quality pictures, quality plants, and worth the money you will spend on it.

Quick easy install, sleek design looks great on my desk. Can’t wait to use it more! I purchase it for staff photos nothing fancy but does what I need.

Bad quality and the ribbon is so hard to replace. I’m still trying to return it it broke after printing only 50 cards

Use it for 130 cards and then it broke... for nothing? I can't have support. ALso, it is complicated to buy the ribbon. Don't purchase it.
