Boonie Hat

High quality, great fit. I've been wearing it often for several months and have zero complaints. I would buy again

Boonie hats are cool! This is my first boonie hat, and I am in love. Okay, that may be a bit strong, but I do really like this hat. Let me first say that the hat fits great. I was a little nervous about the size, since I have had difficulties in the past. I bought two of these hats, one for me, and the other for one of my teenage boys. We measured our heads with a sewing tape measure, then ordered the recommend sizes. Both hats fit perfectly, which was a very nice surprise. The hat is comfortable, and I have already worn it while doing heavy activities in 100 degree F temperatures. It does a good job at keeping my face from burning (including ears and back of neck). It is also very comfortable and cool. What I was surprised about was that it also kept the sweat from dripping onto my glasses (nice!). The only problem I had with the hat is that mine arrived all folded up (they are packable) in a strange place that caused the front to dip down into my face. I took the hat and straightened the top rim like I used to do when I was in the military (to get them looking perfect). I then let it set on a table overnight. The next day the hat was perfect. I was going to steam it next if I needed to so that I could get that annoying bend out of the brim of the hat, but that wasn't necessary. The hat has been great, and is quickly becoming my favorite hat. As a matter of fact, I went ahead and ordered another boonie hat in a different color. My son and I agree that these hats are great!

I bought 6 khaki color boonie hats so here is my review of them, in order of my preference: Hazard 4 SunTac: best of them all for me, due to it being the lightest in color which is what I wanted, plus it is excellent in construction and materials. It also had the stiffest brim and holds the rolled shape I like the best. The Molle straps were a bonus but I would have rather had it with the traditional band rather than Velcro. I cut the stitches off the Velcro on the top of the crown and it came off cleanly. I would have rather had the vents in khaki color rather than black, but not a big deal. It has snaps to hold the sides up sort of like a cowboy hat but the brim holds the shape without those (but as it wears in the snaps might be a good thing). This was my favorite of the 6 I bought from Amazon and it is better than genuine military issue. Rothko 5815: like a carbon copy of the military issue one I got from my uncle. Great choice as well. It is a darker khaki, more of a medium tan as opposed to the beige of the Hazard 4. I wanted a lighter color so am returning the Rothko. Pics on Amazon make it hard to tell the exact color. The vents are black. No snaps for the sides of the brim. No map pocket. AimTrend: the tag on it said Fox Outdoor Extreme Endurance. It is also a darker Khaki. It is maybe a little thinner material but not by much. Khaki colored vents and no snaps. It is a little looser fit and my head is exactly 7-1/2". The color is lighter than the Rothko but still a fair amount darker than the Hazard 4. No map pocket. Seems like a solid choice too. The Hat Depot: the label says "Newhattan New a fashions of New York". It is NOT rip stop material. Dark grey shiny metal vents and no snaps. a little lighter color than the AimTrend hat, and it has a bit more grey in the color but still a decent khaki color. Despite the "Newhattan fashion" label it seems like a sturdy enough hat but... Outzie: is not marketed as a boonie hat but rather as a fishing hat. It is very good quality; just not exactly what I wanted. The tall crown makes it look a bit... off... compared to a true boonie. It is a nice light khaki like what I wanted. It has snaps for the sides of the brim. Brim is nice and stiff. Vents are an aged brass. No map pocket. Prikinder: dark grey and pre-faded. Very flimsy and seems like something you would get at a beach t-shirt shop. The mesh "band" is a nice idea tho. My least favorite. The Hazard and Rothko are great, with the AimTrend not far behind. The others aren't bad just not as good.

If you know your hat size and want a quality boonie-style cover, you'll love this one. I wear it almost every day because I really like it. Finally, a boonie cover that fits well, looks good, and is durable.

Bought the same size of my motorcycle helmets and it does fit but feels tighter than i would like it to be. I suggest to size up for a more relaxed fit.

I ordered two of these hats due to the sale they placed them on. For starters, they are small... I'm talking Chris Farley "little coat" small... Where the crown/cone of the top hat is sewn into the underbrim, the seam extends past the underbrim. The sweatband is then attached to the now too long seams, adding layers of fabric. I would say it sticks out about a half inch in some areas of the circle. Due to the multiple layers of fabric and now the funct headband, it adds additional thickness where it's not needed, which takes away from the available room for size. If you try to trim it yourself, it will undo the seams and ruin the hat. The "crown" of the hat is made of a super stiff duck cloth, while the brim is made of softer fabric. I've tried fabric softeners to "stretch" the hat out, but so far no luck. The 2nd hat had better seam control, as it did not stick out as much. I'm going have to be forced to modify these hats, in order to make them usable. In their current form, they are uncomfortable. I'm giving it three stars, as the quality control lacks greatly, and I would have wished they explained what sizes these hats were made for. Had my hopes for these hats since my dad wore these types of hats while he was in Vietnam and wanted to surprise for Christmas.

Great product. Fits perfectly. Crushable lets you pack/store it anywhere. Excellent waterproof material.

This is a nice hat. I got it to keep the sun off of my ears and nose when I mow the lawn. I like it! Hat was shipped right away and I received it in about a week, so that is good. I measured my head, looked at a sizing chart on line and then I decided to order one size larger to be on the safe side. The fit is perfect. Snug hats make my forehead pain, so I'm glad I chose to go up a size.
