Nero 12 Platinum features seven of our most popular applications in one convenient bundle. Creative packs and free extension tools make it the complete multimedia suite – and the only one you’ll ever need to burn, edit, backup, rip, convert and play your movies, music and photos. Review: Diverse and flexible features - I have Win7 64 bit, cpu = i7 960, with 18 mbps internet download speed. With this hardware and connection I have had no trouble installing Nero 12 Platinum. So far so good - the interfaces for the various modules (burning rom, nero express, etc) are intuitive. The updater works perfectly. It is a credit to Nero that they are providing as free downloads the sound editing modules (SoundTrax, Nero Wave Editor) and CoverDesigner. I use these a lot and Wave Editor comes with many audio codecs including lame, mp3, wav, FLAC and much, much more. The quality of recodes can be customized in detail. The Ask toolbar can be declined during installation, but if it is on your computer somehow (from Nero or prior downloads), you can uninstall it from Control Panel, Programs and Features. I'll update this review when I get more experience, but so far no complaints. Nero provides a lot of functionality for not a lot of money. Update 3/28/2013. Had trouble playing commercial blue ray disk in Nero Blue Ray Player: the image was pixilating. I found a fix as follows. In "Options" menu of the player you can choose different video decoding methods. I chose "Partial Hardware" instead of "Full Hardware"(default: decoding is performed by your video card GPU) or "Software" (decoding performed by your computer CPU) and now blue ray movie plays fine. I conclude therefore that some problems with Blue Ray Player may be related to the capabilities of the hardware (My video card is ATI Radeon HD5800. My DVD/BD drive is LITE-ON iHBS212-08 with latest H05 firmware). I found out from Nero that you cannot play DVDs using Nero Blue Ray Player. You must use Nero Kwik Media to play DVDs. Nero Kwik[sic] Media is causing a lot of headaches for people, according to posts on Nero Community. When you open KWIK it launches a search of hard drives and directories (or even your home network), cataloging various types of media files so you can access them from one place (i.e. Nero Kwik Media). In the Options menus there does appear to be a way to restrict the drives and directories searched, or you can tell it not to search. I will have to see how effective that is. It can burn data to CD, DVD or BD, and optionally password protect the disks. Nice archival feature. Review: Nero 12 Platinum worth its price - I was a bit hesitant to purchase the software after reading a few reviews, but after purchasing an OEM Blu-Ray drive which also happens to be a LightScribe drive as well I decided to spend the money at a lower price than what is currently being advertise now on desertcart. I uninstalled potential problem software and cleaned the PC using free utility software prior to installing Nero 12 Platinum. I believe this is where most people have problems installing any software, they just aren't the tidy 'type' or know better. It's like buying that new entertainment center and system for your living room and just pushing everything else out of the way instead of taking pride in your new purchase and doing the right thing. Biggest test for me was Blu-Ray playback, which was flawless. No problems creating an install disc from a Linux iso image file. No problem using Kwik Media as well. I don't do video editing, so I can't comment on that feature. Hopefully everyone benefits by me sharing my suggestions above and finds the software to be as good as I believe it is.

Nero 12 Platinum worth its price

Intrusive and aggressive- but functional.
We got this because we needed a Blu-Ray player for our new media server. As it turns out, it wasn't that simple. However...I use FLAC when possible (192khz, 24 bit) and Nero doesn't support that. BTW, Media Monkey Gold does- and that's what I use for playback of audio. I had to reset my preferences after I installed Nero, and I also discovered there's no way to defeat a plethora of "media related" functions this program fires up when launching the DVD player (annoyingly, that's a separate program from the Blu-Ray player, which works with simple elegance). If you want Nero to be the only media program you'll ever buy, and if you don't use your computer for playback of anything but MP3's, WMA, or other vanilla formats, this program may work out for you- but only if you're willing to allow Nero to completely dictate the exact means and methods used to access your collections of audio, video, and pictures. I'd willingly recommend it for a disorganized teenager with stuff scattered from hell to breakfast on their computers- because Nero will find it, make it march in a straight line and quack on command. It's definitely not made for someone who already has their ducks in a row. Two stars off for causing me grief and for not providing a more sophisticated control interface- three remain because it does actually work, despite Nero's "blunt trauma" approach to managing media.

Almost perfect
It is almost perfect, I put together a very long detailed Blu-Ray project and with all the different video's, photos, and background music that I added and edited, this project took some hours to complete. The first time I tried to put it together I got tired because it was late and I had completed most of the work, so I saved the project and left it to complete on another day. The next day when I went to open the file, Nero could find the file, but was unable to open it. I tried day after day and time after time, but that file could not be opened. So I started all over again and after a few hours of editing and arranging things the way I wanted, the Blu-Ray burned and came out PERFECT. I like this better than my Roxio 2009 which seemed to be riddled with problems.
