Wow, there are a lot of conflicting answers here. Is this just a thumbturn lock for the inside of a door, and is it complete and functioning as sold?

Yes, the one I received was a full functional single sided deadbolt. A single sided deadbeat means that there is no exterior side to this deadbolt. There is no key side as with a typical deadbolt or blank plate even. Keep in mind that the installation of these is different than a typical deadbolt. It does come with the thumb turn side and plate as shown in the picture as well as the bolt and internal door mechanism, door frame plate, and screws.

Does this come with the exterior plate for the outside?

No it does not. You can no longer use a key but just locks the door from inside

Can this be used to replace a keyed lock? I have a Kwikset deadbolt that is keyed on the inside and would like to convert.

I tried to replace the inside keyed side of a kwikset deadbolt, but it didn't work. I decided not to return it since the price was so low and I felt like this was probably my fault for not researching enough. When this didn't work, I went to Home Depot and bought a whole kwikset deadbolt lock (both sides) for $5 more, which is what I should have done to begin with.

Is this replacing a deadbolt already in place? or does it come with the bolt?

This is designed to replace your interior latch lever only. Mainly for a cosmetic color change. For example; sometimes people may have gold with the finish showing wear and they decide to change it out for another finish too.
