It works
I know virtually nothing about violins (other than repairing a couple), but I decided to try to play one, and found I needed a shoulder rest. This one was reasonably priced on Amazon, so I gave it a try. After I managed to figure out how to attach it, it went on OK and seems to work fine. Seems to be reasonably sturdy.

Budget shoulder rest that's ok
My kid misplaced his FOM brand shoulder rest, so I bought this for a quick cheap replacement. For a beginning violin student, an adjustable shoulder rest is helpful. You can go on youtube for the numerous discussion on its pros and cons. As a beginner, some padding for his shoulder and getting the instrument in the right position help lessen the stress and discomfort during practice. Having said that. This is cheap. The FOM brand or equivalent is about $20 to $25. But if you kid is somewhat serious about learning to play the violin, I would spring for the extra $15. This product is somewhat flimsy. The foam is thin and it lacks tilt adjustment. But it is only $7. It will serve. This shoulder rest does provide support and cushioning and is easy to attach. Its lighter weight may also be good for young kids. However, if you are really on a budget, a towel and some rubber band will work just fine. For school orchestra, we use foam sponge for shoulder rest which is also sold on Amazon for around $6. I think that might be a better budget and lightweight option over this product.

Good fit
Finally found the right shoulder support which feels soft but still fits correctly on the violin. It took us to try couple of products to find this one. Glad to share that it is probably your best bet to find the good quality shoulder rest. Only issue I think would be, it's a little bigger and took a bit getting use to fit in the violin case but it all worked out.

Good sturdy contraption
Like- Good value. Feels sturdy. Works fine. Unknowns- The forward/backward motion can't be fixed.(probably by design). Did not use the adjustability much. Feels wobbly due to the adjustability. Hope it lasts.
