Tiny, amazing storage size
This 4tb external SSD was about 60% more expensive than comparable external HDs, but it offers a free really key advantages. It's very tiny. I looked at the pictures, but I still didn't get just how tiny it actually is. I love that it takes up virtually no space and can be easily transported in a pocket. You could put it in that little pocket in your jeans. It doesn't need a separate power cord. This is actually my favorite feature. One less cord on my desk it always a great deal. It's much faster than an external HD. I'm connecting to an older iMac, which only has USB 2, but if I ever connect it to my laptop I'll be able to take advantage of USB-C speeds. Compared to an HD, it also doesn't have to spin up, which takes my previous western digital HD up to v 10 seconds, so I'm still seeing a nice speed boost. There are bigger, faster SSDs, but I will take the small speed hit for the size advantage. I did not have to format for Mac, as some reviewers said. Mine came in exfat, which is compatible between both. SSDs are much more reliable than HDs, in both longevity and shock resistance. This SSD is small enough to easily transport, which means you have to consider dropping it (or stopping whatever bag it's in). SSDs withstand about 50x more shock than HDs (~1500g vs ~30g). It's quieter and uses less power than an HD.

Blazing Fast and Ultra-Portable: My Review of the Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs
I purchased two Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs back in December of 2022 and I couldn't be more pleased with their performance. As someone who travels around the world for work, I rely on these drives to store all my important files and media. One drive is dedicated to my work files, while the other is for my entertainment needs, holding hundreds of TV series and movies that I can easily access from my MacBook or iPad thanks to the USB C connection and the high speed at which these drives run. One of the things I love about these drives is their durability. With no moving parts, I feel extremely confident that they will last a long time. I personally purchased the L LTGEM EVA Hard Storage Case for these drives, and they fit perfectly, with two drives per case. I've dropped and knocked these drives a few times, but they still work perfectly. In fact, I'm so impressed with these drives that I'm about to purchase four more to backup all my family photos, videos, and special files, which I will keep locked away in my fireproof safe. That's how confident I am in their quality. Overall, I highly recommend the Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs. Their size is amazing, and the speed is blazing fast, making them perfect for video editing. And speaking of size, I love that I can put one of these 4TB drives in my shirt pocket when I'm in the office and take it from conference room to conference room without even noticing the weight. In conclusion, these drives are amazing, and I can't recommend them enough.

Reformatted NTFS for faster transfer rate
Update 8-9-23 Read this whole review... Reformatting this drive as NTFS improved the transfer rate. I bought the Crucial X6 a few months ago. I read the reviews, and some people were disappointed about the transfer rate. Out of the box, the transfer rate was horrible on my Windows 10 laptop. The max was 112 kbps. I updated the firmware, and that did not improve the transfer rate. I reformatted the drive NTFS on a Windows 10 PC and the transfer rate went up to 338 Mbps. Much better, and that was possibly limited by the HDD that was reading files. I just got 2 more X6 drives with the same issue, and the same format to NTFS fix worked (for a Windows PC). So, if your X6 drive doesn't work as expected right out of the box, try reformatting it. Also, remember that there are many places for bottlenecks to slow things down (like the computer, the USB connection speed, and the drive from which it is reading or to which it is writing).

Slow write speeds after 10 minutes
This is a good drive if you are trying to write small amounts of data or back up small projects (500 gb or less). Anything over that volume and the drive begins to heat up that it then throttles itself to write speeds of less than 100 MB/s. I went to back up my computer of 1.5 TBโs and what started out as a 45-50 minute job quickly devolved into 6+ hours. For the first 10 minutes, write speeds were as advertised as the drive had copied 350 gb in about 10 minutes at a pace of about 680 MB/s to 700 MB/s. After the 10 minute mark the drive started to get hot and has now slowed down to 70 MB/s (1/10th the original speed). No other programs were running during this time as I wanted to ensure a stable backup copy. Save your money and put it to a higher class drive and transfer system. I usually am a big fan of crucial products but this product is not worth the price. Update: Lowering review to 1 star because after testing the same system with different backup drives but utilizing the same method, data volume and software I was able to complete a full 1.5 TB backup on other drives (with a lower sustained read/write speed than the crucial of 550 MB/s) in 1 hour 15 minutes. Differential backups took only 11 minutes compared to this crucial drive taking 6 hours and 51 minutes for a full backup and 4 hours 11 minutes for a differential backup of the same data volume. I will be submitting a warranty claim as these drives from Crucial are extremely flawed which probably explains why it was put on sale for a cheap price. Tested this Crucial drive on both a Windows 10 Pro system and 2020 iMac (the Crucial drive actually caused the backup program on Windows to crash twice while the other 3 different manufacturer SSD drives caused no issues).

Very portable large amount of storage for a great price
Love how small this is. Works great and so far has performed incredibly well for us. Plug and Play makes installation a breeze. Being from a brand like Crucial, I have no worries of data loss or corruption. I have used without issue for months now and would highly recommend to others as an IT professional.

Can be a great value, if this works for you (no frills)
I'd give it maybe 4.5 - slightly less for lack of bells & whistles & ease, but a 5-star value if it works for you. Specifically, backup in my case, for a Macbook SSD drive. Replacing a fancier HDD, which started corrupting and then keeled over. So, trying this - a good size, says it's compatible with Mac/Time Machine, and mixed reviews. Here's my thin-slice: Yes, it's both *tiny* and seems flimsy compared to sturdier SSD's (like Samsung T's, at twice the price). No flashing power light, & the shortest cable I've ever seen (see photo). But USB-c to USB-c, nice for a Macbook & it can sit on top. I held off on reviewing, because there was some gunk leftover in Time Machine and at first I thought there were hard errors, with disk utility checks (but they were from the last backup bla bla). Short story: It's about 2 weeks now, backing up regularly, more or less hourly (sometimes more, partial) if left alone, or plugged in at day's end. It is super-fast for incremental backups. Doesn't get hot that I've noticed. Main annoyance for me is no light, no weight, no cable length. But it works out, just sits there (weighs like nothing) and does work. Note, a beginning challenge might be formatting to APFS - or it may be super simple. I had a challenge, but it's now just.. working. ๐ Tiny, inconspicuous, no bells & whistles. YMMV. It's gone up in price since I bought it a few weeks ago, but still - it may be a bargain price. One warning (another demotion from 5 stars) - I could not register it and the website is clear this model is no longer for sale (from Crucial) and most of the info/support links no longer lead anywhere. So, consider this almost "legacy", no fancy stuff, but MAYBE (hoping!) just a simple, straightforward, *reliable* SSD as Micron/Crucial are known for. So, if you can deal with some ambiguity (instruction 'manual' to website), you may find a really good value here on a 4TB SSD, especially if you're just using it for the drive and not in need of their software. I do believe they'll still honor the warranty; they're just not manufacturing these any more. And that is why you may find a good deal.

Great SSD at an Affordable Price
Bought this to use as a Time Machine backup since I use Time Machine to backup both my Mac's internal drive and my external SSD and smaller sizes aren't sufficient. Previously I used cheaper mechanical HDDs, but those fail much more quickly than SSDs, plus they take forever to restore via Time Machine if you have a lot of data. This one has speedy transfer rates - not class-leading by any means, but good enough for Time Machine or basic storage - and it's one of the cheapest out there. Highly recommended!

Crucial X6 SSD using a USB port is approximately 3X to 4X faster than each of my non-SSDs.
Pros: Much faster than each of the non-SSD external drives that I have connected to my desktop computer's USB 3.0 ports. Cons: The cable length is too short (at 9 inches connected with only the C-type connector, or 10.5 inches when the C-type connector is connected to a USB-A type adapter). Comparison tests that I ran: My computer (in case this matters) is a Windows 10 with an Intel i7-4790K CPU. In side-by-side comparisons of the ''copy'' files function, testing the same set of 5 different file folders, copied to a Crucial X6 SSD and also copied to a Seagate Portable HDD and a Western Digital WD Elements WESD Portable HDD, with all 3 external drives connected to three different USB 3.0 ports, the Crucial X6 SSD was faster, ranging from roughly 2X faster to 7X faster than this Seagate HDD and Western Digital HDD. Overall, in a set of 5 tests, the Crucial X6 averaged approximately 3X to 4X faster versus each of these two HDDs. The copy speeds (of this Crucial) ranged from a low of ~ 10 MBps to 400 MBps. Large files (such as video >= 1 GB files) copied much faster than small files (such as small low resolution photos < 1 MB file size). Caveat: My review does NOT cover longevity or reliability of this product (Crucial X6 SSD) because I have only used it for 12 days.

Just Amazing - It did give me some issues at the beginning though
This drive is just amazing. So tiny, but packs 4Terabytes. I did have weird behavior at the beginning though. I got it to replace my previous 2Tb disk drive, because it was almost full, so my first action was copying the large amount of files. To my surprise the speed was like 40-120kb/s which is very very slow. I assumed that it was because of they were a lot of very tiny files. After it went through the folders with the small files, it went quicker at around 100mb/s which was probably limited by my old external drive, but then settled for 30-60 mb/s. Eventually it finished copying everything, but when i tried to run programs from it or access big files on it, or copy things to it, it just felt sluggish and not very well responsive. So i decided to reformat the drive as a last resort before sending it back, this time with NTFS instead of ExFat that it came on. When that finished, the drive worked much better, copied everything again a lot faster (still limited by my old drive) and now the programs running from it work perfectly, faster than ever. Also copying things from pc to the crucial is now at over 300mb/s with a normal usb 3.0 port. I don't know if this was just a "me" problem, but I'm very happy everything worked out at the end. Can only recommend the drive. Cons: its so tiny, i hope i don't lose it :D.

Absolutely tiny, but packs a mighty punch.
I really like this thing. For the longest time, I was using LaCie's Porsche USB-C drives due to their high storage to value ratio and durable design. However, at the end of the day, they were still 5400-7200 RPM drives inside very nice shells. Quick aside, the old Porsche shells were so sharp, one actually sliced my finger open when I tried to extract the drive from it. These drives are quite solid overall, but are definitely heavy, and they have to constantly re-index and load content. I'd pull up a video on them and 75% of the time, they have a 10-15 second buffer to start playing the content again. Sometimes it would even do this mid-playback. This tiny little thing has had no such problems. As a true SSD, it is 100% silent and loads content in an instant. Not once since I've had it has it lagged, buffered or crashed anything I've loaded from it. It's so small that it's not a detrimental add to a travel kit, it's a storage peace-of-mind for practically no downsides. I will say, it's overall not as fast as the SSD in the M1 Pro MacBook Pro I connect it to. However, Apple sticks ridiculously fast drives in these, I honestly don't know many other drives that don't cost the same as a new MacBook that can rival the speeds of those. Past that little comparison, these are nice and speedy, and honestly well worth the additional investment. Maybe you don't need 4TB like I do, but the smaller capacity should still very much impress.
