The Right Phrase for Every Situation . . . Every Time Communication is the single most important skill for excelling as a manager. What you say and how you say it sets the tone for your department and your entire organization. Perfect Phrases for Managers and Supervisors , second edition, has been completely revised to help you communicate in todayโs workplace, where collaboration, cooperation, and personalization are critical to building an efficient, productive work environment. Learn the most effective language for: Setting a tone of mutual trust and respect Dealing with difficult employees and delicate problems Conducting interviews and performance reviews Empowering your people Disciplining workers or terminating employment Review: Very good book! - I was pretty much thrown into a management position with no training what so ever. It's been a tough road and even after 8 years I still run into difficult situations that I'm not quite sure how to handle. With every new employee comes a new set of situations that I've never encountered before. This book is a fabulous tool with phrases that can be used when speaking with employees. This book covers so many different situations from phrases to help motivate staff, to phrases that can help you when discussing difficult personnel issues like employment terminations or performance problems. When I got the book in the mail, that evening I went through it and highlighted and flagged certain sections and phrases that I felt would be beneficial. The very next day I was confronted with an issue with one of my staff and when I spoke to that person I even used some of the phrases I got from the book. Although it's not a substitute for good management training (which I wish I had gotten before being thrown into that role), along with learning as I go, this book is going to be very helpful. I have already purchased two of the other books in this series "Perfect Phrases for Performance Reviews" and "Perfect Phrases for Dealing with Difficult Situations at Work". I would highly reccomend this book to anyone in a management or supervisory position. Review: This book contained a lot of great information - I Purchased, this book to help with some of our performance reviews with staff, and it had great insight. I also purchased a similar employee book that came from the Perfect Phrases series. Both are excellent.

This is a great book if you're writing evaluations on supervisors. There are hundreds of phrases under each rating category from Exceeds to Unsatisfactory. The only downfall is that it doesn't cover any Educational positions, but you can find generic phases under each of the rating categories. I wish I could find a book like this for just an employee, like a teacher. One more thing -- if you have the first edition to this book, there's no reason to buy this one. The differences are not worth the price of the book.

A must have!
As a new manager, this book has helped me deal with several issues. I wish I had owned it several years back and some situations would have had better outcomes. I keep it close for reference at all times. It is so important to hear your employees and understand them. I work with different age groups of professionals, and I strive to communicate effectively with each of them. This book is a wonderful tool and has enabled me to communicate better! Thank you!

Good info, hard to stay engaged
While there was a lot of good information and helpful tips it was hard to finish. Having actual stories of how some phrases were used would have helped make this book more relevant to me. I also felt some of the phrases were cold or distant. Coming from a clinic that puts a lot of energy into building a strong and close team dynamic... This book didn't evoke those feelings.

The Perfect Phrases series is a must in every leader's library!
The Perfect Phrases series is such a targeted resource--just like Perfect Phrases for Performance Reviews. This one for Managers and Supervisors is excellent for all who are, or aspiring to be, direct supervisors and managers of teams of people.

Great buy
This is great for first time leaders like me. I don't supervise a lot of people. My group is small and intimate. But I still like to know how to approach them with questions and how to word them. This book is great for that!

Great for new supervisors and managers
I have been a supervisor/manager for years and ordered this book recently to see if it could be helpful in my career. There are a lot of helpful things in this book; however I think it is better geared for new managers and supervisors. I am always willing to look at something and hope to learn something new from it and I think it was a good book.

Great lot of assistance
As a new manager this book helped me look at different ways of communicating with my team members by the use of standardise phrases. Particularly for challenging characters of my team as I was dealing with employees who have been in the organisation for a long period of years spanning from 10 to 35 years. Some were very resistant to change which enable me to do with awkward situation.
