Quick & easy install on 2014 Audi Q7 Prestige
After hoping that a similar, lower priced unit that was designed for the same navigation unit (MMI 3G+) but a different chassis (A4/A5/etc.) I purchased this unit for $299. It came well packaged with much better instructions than the attempted Carlinkit unit. Installation was smooth, it included the necessary MMI Aux-in jack for proper function which appears as an option for other products. Ensure you have a set of Audi radio keys for head unit removal, a #2 flat head screwdriver to depress the two HVAC faceplate tabs, and a towel to protect your shifter/console. All in all - the hardest part was just arranging the unit and additional cables in a manner to fit inside the dash; the instructions even offered suggestions on a few different orientations. I didn't end up disassembling the glove box and found ways to route the USB-in and a spare HDMI cable to the passenger-side elastic net pocket in the footwell. The Wifi antenna was routed in the same manner, then slid aft behind the passenger side of the center console. Function appears to be good up front, I need to commute with it for a few weeks before I'll up my 4-star rating to 5-stars. One other thing to note is this unit is only powered with the vehicle on (might work in ACC, still need to confirm,) but the MMI will normally stay on if you have turned off the car but not exited the vehicle. This unit powers off in this scenario, not much of a nuisance for how well the unit integrates with plug-in-play wiring and an easily navigable menu using the MMI knob.

Great Unit with Minor Issues
I bought this for a 2011 Q7, and overall I have loved having such a modern and easy to use navigation & music box in my older car. The installation process was kind of a pain -- the instructions and installation video are very bad. The official road top video is super low resolution and doesn't show the hardest part of installation, which is removing the vents and the climate control panel. I had to watch many other videos to figure out how to do it. For installation, you will need a set of study hooks to remove the vents -- I used these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08W54HPVS. The thin mercedes instrument pullers will not work, I tried those in vain for hours. After removing the vent, take care not to turn the ignition on with the wires to the vent disconnected-- one of them is the passenger airbag warning light. Switching the ignition with this disconnected will trigger an airbag fault and cannot be cleared except with a VAG-COM cable or by the dealer. This is something that none of the instructions or informational videos cover, which was pretty frustrating. Then, you will need these keys to remove the MMI: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018GKO6OQ. Finally, you will need a flathead screwdriver to remove the front of the climate control panel. It's pretty easy to hook up all of the connections once you have everything dismantled, and my model Q7 had an opening under the dash where I could run the cable out. Once connected, it was pretty quick to get the phone connected to the device, and most of the functions work very smoothly. The ability to switch between the standard MMI and the roadtop unit is great-- I even took this to the dealer with it installed and they didn't notice or say anything about it. I did experience some issues with the connectivity and ended up turning off wireless android auto which made it way better. It wasn't super useful anyway because, depending on your phone, wireless AA can drain 10% battery per hour. I find it's much easier just to plug in. The box works nicely with the MMI and steering wheel controls, and the call quality and voice recognition work great. Every once in a while everything just stops working and I have to restart the car to get it back in working order, but that's not too often. Overall, once you get it installed and configured this will make your car feel brand new! Roadtop should bundle the installation tools (Radio Keys and Vent Pullers) and create a better installation video and that would make this a much better product. Despite the installation issues, I would recommend buying this if you have a Q7 that you want to upgrade!

great product but manual is not comprehensive
This is a great product gives a new life to my old 2013 Audi Q7; makes it able to catch up the mainstream of mobile technology. The most difficult step during installation is to unmount Air Vents, Audi MMI head-unit and AC controller unit. The locks are extremely stiff and very difficult to click both locks on two sides at the same time even with correct tools from Audi/VW by single person (two persons work together should be easier). After that, every thing is pretty easy and straight forward as described in the installation manual. The Retrofit Kit has many setup options after boot up, but the manual inside the box is very simple and covers only tiny portion of it. I wish the vendor/seller can provide an URL to download full manual / document. (no matter it's in English or in Chinese; I am aware of that the box is made in China.) I tested drive several times in the first night after installation and on the second day. I encountered two problems. 1. screen size - the retrofit display to outside the screen, I saw options in the setup to make display smaller but the setting seems not working correctly everytime. After restart the car, sometimes it correctly fit display to screen but sometimes it went back to original bigger display. 2. auto night mode in Android Auto - I followed the seller's reply in Q&A set the kit to auto (Setup -> Carplay/Android Auto -> turn on Auto Dark Mode) but both of my Google Map and Waze navigation are still stay in day mode, no matter my car headlights are on or off. I reviewed my Google Map App setting and confirmed the color is set to Automatic already. (If I connect the same phone to my another car, VW Golf, came with OEM Android Auto support, the auto night mode works well.) I don't see a method to contact seller directly, hence I left my question together with my product review.

No product support
Defective product was received. After carefully following the product installation instructions, found the product to be defective. Emails to Support went unanswered. WhatsApp text messages were only replied to between 2am and 4 am. Always asking for more pictures and never with any suggestions, nor offer to replace the unit. Too hard to get any support and that support is unreasonably slow. After 3 installation with no improvement, I gave-up on the product. Money wasted!

Does exactly what it promises.
The “Road Top Wireless Carplay Wireless Android Auto” successfully integrates CarPlay with the dated MMI interface of my 2014 Q7. The instructions were very clear and concise, but I had to turn to YouTube and some forums to figure out how to remove my AC control panel and the media console unit. I’ve rated the product five stars as it does exactly what it promised, but be aware that this product only adds CarPlay as a togglable interface and all of your Bluetooth integration with the vehicle will still be done through the original system. Maps, music display, and the CarPlay UI itself work flawlessly even without being touch-screen and have helped give my car a much more up to date feel. Only complaint is that the cables are a little short which makes the physical portion of the installation a bit tedious (trying to find a spot for the unit and plug in the already short OEM cables.)

Works very well, has support
I installed this in my 2014 Audi Q7 in June 2023. The physical installation process went very well. In the beginning, there were some software issues to work through that required getting a few updates from the vendor to work properly with my version of the MMI, but they were reasonably responsive and they did resolve the issues that I had. Since that, this unit has worked extremely well. Every once in a great while, I need to disconnect and reconnect my phone, but it seems very rare now. It integrates very nicely with the Audi Q7. My calls are still handled through the Bluetooth in Audi’s MMI just as it was before CarPlay was installed, and the system transitions flawlessly between taking calls, playing music, and switching back to Maps. Switching between the Audi MMI interface and the CarPlay interface is extremely easy. You don’t even have to use the buttons on the center console, you can simply hold down the NAV button on the steering wheel for a few seconds, and it will switch over to the CarPlay screen. You can also use a combination of CarPlay and the Audi MMI. For example, I can switch to the radio as the audio source, and then switch the display to CarPlay, so that I can see the map for navigation. I can still switch between radio stations using the forward and backward arrow on the center console. Overall, for the price, I highly recommend it.

It works well! Customer support is great!
Bought this retrofit kit for my 2013 Audi Q7. Installation was simple and no wires had to be cut. I use Android Auto and this kit supports both wired and wireless use. Recently, Android Auto updated their software and it caused the firmware in the kit to freeze. I emailed Road Top customer service and explained my problem. A representative fron the company, Sarah, replied to my email the same day. She sent a firmware update file and detailed instructions on how to apply the update. This solution instantly fixed my problem. I know there are many other retrofit kits out there on the market, but from my experience, the kit by Road Top is the best. It has the easiest installation and the best customer service. I highly recommend this kit and seller!
