Does this filter work with a ql2 head and a ql3 too?

Hi that is correct the BH2 works with both heads. We do recommend the QL3 head since it has a shut off valve.

How many gallons do I need to run though a new filter before the water is good? I just installed a new one and the water smells like ash.

I go by time, and have heard anything from 3 minutes to 15 minutes. I run the water through about 5-7 minutes and have not experienced an odor.

Can I transport this item in a checked baggage on an international flight ?

I would check with the airline that you are traveling with, however I would recommend just having the filter shipped there instead of risking breaking it.
