DO THE CLIPS STAY FASTENED OR SEPERATE?

I slide the clips out, roll my hair, slide the clip back in and snap shut. They stay fastened. When I am dry, I unfasten and slide the clip out before I take the curler out . This way my hair will not tangle with the clip. I read this hint from another user.
