Great book, well written.
It was down to the basics of what happened in Ireland and disputed the image the British put out there regarding the IRA as a terrorist group. Really enjoyed the book and the historical significance.

Fascinating insight
A fascinating insight into Irish history. How Tom Barry lead the Cork IRA. Through great struggles and determination along the way. A harsh reality on how Guerilla activity operates. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Some nice rare pictures included.

Chilling and compassionate
Very good read concerning the events that lead up to the Irish Truce. Strictly from a combatants point of view into the attacks and retreats of Southern IRA forces. An account of the war against British forces during one Irelands most bloody eras. Nearly impossible to put down.

Written by the man himself.
If you have any interest in the early 20th century struggle for Irish independence, then this book should be on the list. Tom Barry is a well known Irish patriot and this is his first hand account of his experiences. Can't go wrong getting the story right from the horse's mouth.

the IRA in West Cork.
This book is a cracking read, and at the time of writing I'm only half way thru the book. It is a fascinating account of the part the IRA played in the Irish fight for independence. Tom Barry was a legendary member of the West Cork IRA. The book recalls the guerilla war the IRA engaged in against the Crown Forces ( the British army, the Auxilaries and the fearsome Black & Tans ). I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the Irish struggle for Independence. Michael Collins- the biography by Tim Pat Coogan is another book I would recommend as really good read. And, for anyone who wants to know what it was like serving as a British serviceman during the Irish war of Independence, I recommend the book, British Voices by William Sheenan. Another book worth reading is Michael Collins and the Troubles by Ulick O' Connor.
