I'm a tall big handed guy so I wanted a longer flute to match my fingers as well as an instrument with a lower pitch. As a total beginner though I wasn't ready to shell +$200 for a musical instrument I did't know how to play. I ordered this flute instead and it was just perfect. I bought it along with "The Native American Flute: Understanding the GIFT" manual and within days I was able to play pentatonic scale and even jam with my friends. G minor scale is a relatively rare scale though. If you want to play with other consider A minor. I love it's lower pitch though and I would even go for F minor if it was available. It takes some practice to position the fetish to get good clear sound for higher and lower G, and sometime lower G plays like higher G even if you blow slowly. I don't know whether more expensive flutes would be less finicky but for its price this flute has a great value.

Not good quality
I am returning this item. I got it for my daughter, she didn’t like the sound, and after two uses it looks weathered and worn. It is incredibly strange. Even the finger holes look worn. She just brought it back from college. I sent it to her April 30th and I am returning it tomorrow.

Built well, sounds great, tastes bad.
The tone and build quality of this instrument are very good, considering the price. However, I have one major complaint. There is a VERY strong taste of cedar. It irritates my mouth. Because of this I can't play for very long. Also, the taste lingers. Not good. Perhaps the taste won't bother you.

This is a very beautiful, well made flute. It's solid but not overly heavy, and the tone is really great and whistful, just like I was looking for.

Beautiful flute, but had a funny smell and taste
Beautiful flute, but had a funny smell and taste. I was also looking for a deeper sound and a bit bigger of a flute. Returned.

Awesome instrument!
Works great. Comes with instructions on how to play. Be patient. Just like any instrument, it takes time to figure our how hard to blow and how to play the notes. I was frustrated at first, but once I got it down... I love it. Real soothing sound. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
