Do the brakes lock? Has anyone had any experience in both the single and double back wheels that could advise on which is better?

There is a brake lock and it works great…the third wheel is fabulous for stability as it goes on the opposite side of your good leg….this way you don’t hit a wheel if you opted for the 4 wheel unit and it is smaller than the rear wheel very easy to install and just works.

need to know if its steerable?

It is easily steerable. The steering radius is only slightly smaller than the 4 wheelers. That being said you may need to make Y or J turns in tight areas. I find it easier to just lift the front wheels or occasionally, the rear wheel. The steering radius is fixed to avoid accidental spills and overturns, especially for those of us who believe in using it to the max. Heavy Weight in the basket does affect the ease of use.

Is this item easy to use for a 5 ft 2 140 lb 73 yr old

I am 69 years old and 4' 10 1/2" and weigh 175 pounds. I also have balance issues but it has been working good for me. It is very sturdy. What type of material is it made of?

The frame is lightweight steel to the best of my knowledge, the seat is very sturdy foam covered with vinyl (very washable), and the tires are tubed, much as a small bicycle but more sturdy. I will be using mine for a second surgery. Actually looking forward to getting back on it. Made my life much easier after surgery.
