THIS WORKS! Do NOT let fish have access to UV Rays!!!!
the light has drastically cleared the water in my aquarium as well as inhibited algea growth in just 48 hours. I have a fluval flex 32.5 gallon freshwater guppy tank. the video is before the uv lamp installation (taken approx 2 weeks before). the picture is of the tank this morning! a world of a difference! I'm currently only running the uv lamp 12 hours a day when the aquarium lighting is on. I purchased the 9w bulb and it fits perfectly in the rear filter housing (as pictured) DO NOT INSTALL THIS LAMP IN THE OPEN AREA OF YOUR TANK. IT WILL HARM/BURN THE FISH!!! IT NEEDS INSTALLED SOMEWHERE IN THE TANK THAT FISH DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO. (sump tank, canister filter, segregated housing of some sort. I've also seen people 3D print a housing for UV bulbs.) Just do not expose your fish to these rays!!!!!

This has been working well for my DIY UV-C aquarium sanitizer.
After reading some of the reviews I feel I should emphasize DO NOT PUT THIS BULB IN AN AQUARIUM WITH FISH UNLESS SHROUDED!! IF YOUR FISH ARE EXPOSED TO THE LIGHT YOU ARE HURTING OR KILLING YOUR FISH! I purchased this UV-C bulb for a DIY Aquarium Sanitizer project. I wanted the option of using it as an in-tank sanitizer where fish are present and be able to put the naked bulb in a filter partition so I designed and printed a shroud into which you can insert the bulb. It uses a small water pump and features a helical water channel that significantly increases the exposure time for a better chance of killing viruses and bacteria. I verified that the bulb does emit UV-C light using a banana and a piece of tape. It also emits visible light BUT DO NOT LOOK AT THE LIGHT!! At the time of the first use I had the remnants of a bacteria bloom so the water was a bit cloudy. The water was very clear after 2 days with my DIY Sanitizer running. Now I occasionally put it in overnight as a touch up and even used it when I discovered my guppies had Camallanus worms to kill any larvae drifting in the water.

Results are CLEAR!!
I struggled fighting green water in my 29 gallon aquarium for months!! I tried chemicals, water changes, new filters wrapping with black trash bags and keeping the light off for a week…you name it, I tried it!! I stumbled across this UV light and had nothing to lose. Clearly the pics say it all!! I simply put it in my filter and turned it onto the 24 hour setting (which could probably be turned down now) and patiently waited. The pics attached are taken one week apart for 3 weeks. On the second week, I did add some water clarifier to get rid of the foggyness but that is the only chemical added since putting in the light. I’m excited to add more fish now that I’ll be able to see them. Definitely a great value for the money and highly recommend!!

Effective at Killing Bacteria [So Far] ⚠️ Caution ⚠️ around UVC 254nm ⚠️
There isn’t any mercury in the device. The device has “a high quality quartz ultraviolet lamp tube, which is not filled with mercury.” According to online research: this light is faster than a mercury bulb that takes time to heat up. UVC at 254 doesn’t produce ozone like other UVC under 240nm can. UVC at 254 can make someone go blind for a few days [snow blindness][photokeratitis] can cause burns to the skin if not careful. Do not turn on around people or living things. Mercury bulbs are a lot slower to activate. Don’t look at the light. Safety UV glasses that block 254nm recommended. I purchased such glasses before killing bacteria in the tray of my HVAC system. So far this light was the solution to a bad smelling bacterial problem. I can confirm there is a burnt bacteria smell. After running the light and the AC at the same time. It seems the Endospores opened due to the cold. Making the Bacteria available for UVC destruction. As the institutions indicate. There is a burnt smell that is similar to the bacterial infection that was in the air handler. The infection of my Heat Pump/AC so far seems to have died. Will be leaving the device in there in case of future microbial problems. This is a microorganism killing device. That burns everything that is alive. Including your ⚠️🚫👁️ eyes. I would wear safety glasses 🥽 and have the device behind other 🛡️👀✅ objects [inside my HVAC air handler in the condensate tray] before activating the device. ✅😎

One came broken on arrival and the other stopped working after 2 days
I ordered 2 of these UV-C bulbs, and one of them turned on for a moment before very clearly shorting out. The other worked well in my aquarium for about 2 days before I noticed it stopped glowing in my sump. I took it out to investigate and it had cracked at the bottom of the quartz outer tube, shorting the bulb. For something that needs to last years while on 24/7, it couldn't make it 2 days. Horrible quality.

Works really well
I've had this for 3 years, it works great. Here's an experiment you can see in my picture which side I have the UV light on because the algae growth is much less. It (barely) fits in my filter so the fish are not exposed to it. Going to be getting a second one for the other side.
