An investment in footwear.
These boots are awesome. If you want high quality American-made products, you have to pay for it. If you're used to buying imported boots at Walmart, then the price of these boots will seem outlandish, but you've got to consider what an investment a good pair of boots was back in the day, before you could walk into any big box store and buy something that looks like a boot for a few hours' wages. I have no doubt these boots will last 15 years before needing to be re-soled, then last another 15 years. The construction reminds me of a pair of Addison flight boots I was issued in Pensacola and then wore for over a decade, every day, as a Naval Aviator. As everyone says, these boots have to be broken in before you you can enjoy them. After three days, I'd say they're finally loosening up a bit. Having been home from work for four hours now, I'm still wearing them in my living room. They're not combat boots. They're just a really sturdy medium-height shoe, which probably won't keep your feet warm in the snow (with no insulation), but they'll at least keep your feet dry and you'll have traction walking around in typical northern slush. And in the absence of a lined insole, you can wear them year-round.I've gotten multiple compliments on these boots from people who never comment on such things (including my wife).I highly recommend going to a Redwing store and trying on these boots before you buy them on Amazon. They do run small. I usually wear an 11D and I ended up buying a 10.5.UPDATE:They've broken in quite well. I can literally wear them all day long, and have worn them on numerous day trips around D.C. with extensive walking and have no issues. My only complaint is that the rough inside leather makes it difficult to get them on or off without unlacing them quite a bit. A smooth lining would have helped this, but then that's something which would probably wear out eventually, whereas with this design, the leather inside will never wear a hole through it. Hopefully it will smoothen after putting them on and off a few hundred times.

Pay for Quality
Some things are worth giving up the extra money in order to get a long period of use. Jackets, watches, tools, and shoes. I always liked the classic look of the Beckmans so I thought I'd give them a shot.Going half or a full size down is correct. I wear a 11 dress shoe, a 12 Nike running shoe, and the 10.5 Red Wing worked for me. 10 might have worked but I didn't risk it.The break in period is still going. Only been about 10 eight hour days and they are still stiff. The first day feels like concrete blocks on your feet. A long break in period means a long no breaking period.I chose the cigar featherstone. Hope the photos help those interested. It's a very rich color and for me a little more interesting than the dark brown. The overall construction is excellent. I cannot find a flaw. I'll update the review with the long haul wear. Seems like they're built to last a decade, get a resole, and go another 10. Let's wait and see.

Glad I'm not picky
My review is on my initial thoughts since I have just taken them out the box and tryed them on. I have no idea on the longevity of these boots.1st upon inspecting the boot fresh out of the box there were some nicks and scratchs. So if your worried about a perfect shoe then I suggest go to a store and purchase from there. Luckily I'm not picking about that kind of thing and in my opinion just helps me get to that worn look that makes red wing. The fit for me is true to my boot size which is full size down from my sneaker size. If you wear chuck taylors size should be about the same if that helps. The boot feels well made sturdy. However these boots are heavy. My pair seemed to have been tryed on previous to me getting them again not a big deal to me but something I felt I should note. Wasn't sure if I would like the black cherry but it's a great color. Got too many brown and black boots already. Hoping the iron rangers fit the same because that's going to be my next purchase. Depending on how these break in.

Looking forward to a lot of years in these
Fancy boots. I will actually be using them for work as an ironworker. I cant wait for them to have the well worn look to them. First day of work in them and not a single hot spot on my foot. I was expecting hell after reading all of the reviews but it is one of the most comfortable boots ive owned. A little stiff in the ankle but beautiful fit otherwise. I wore a size 11 in thorogood wedge soles and got a 10.5 in these. Perfect fit. The leather definitely looks a little too fancy for my trade but like i said, looking foreward to the well worn look thats certain to come. Theres only one trivial downside to these boots. There are no quick hooks. All eyelets. Takes a moment longer to put on and remove. And the nearly $100 difference from getting these online instead of in store sealed the deal. Treat your feet.(2 week update) getting better and better looking with use. So far only using kiwi conditioning oil on them. It goes against my beliefs to say this, being utterly non-materialistic and a minimalist, but these are my jam. Only objects to receive more attention are my daughter and girlfriend.

Good basic boot, especially if you can get them on sale
Got them for a decent price and they fit as expected for a boot (I ordered a half size smaller than my Brannock size, as I do with all boots). They feel slightly narrower than the same size pair of Iron Rangers I also own, especially in the toe box area, even though they're supposedly built on the same last. My IRs are older, however, and might have stretched a bit. They were pretty comfortable right out of the box (as all shoes that fit well should be) with only a few temporary hot spots as one would expect when new. I wish they had a slightly chunkier heel though because it feels a bit low and no way is it the 1.25" stated in the product description -- I measured and it's exactly 1" from the bottom of the heel to the top of the outsole. Value-wise I think they're overpriced at full price, but good if you can get them for under $250. They have decent leather and a nice, structured design, but only a 270 degree welt, a few patches of less-than-perfect stitching/welting, a too-thin tongue, and crummy laces.

Great boot, beware the drawbacks..
These are a serious boot and are well made. Two things to be aware of:1. Red wing boots are a very large fit, go down at least one half size and maybe a full size. I wear an 11 usually, and occasionally find some shoes too tight even at that size. But my size 10 red wings fit perfectly.2. The breaking-in period is painful and prolonged. Keep this in mind particularly if you will be wearing these on a casual basis. I've owned mine many months now but generally can't wear them Monday to Friday. Mine still aren't fully broken in.

Great quality and wearing in well
Runs large. Great quality and wearing in well. I'm pretty tough on boots and these are for everyday wear and too nice for heavy work.
