It can be used to mark bias strips, but are the slots big enough to just cut them? Thanks!

the slots are a pair of 5 and they do not completely meet in the middle of the ruler. so, if you are using a rotary cutter, you would only get about 6.5" of cutting before having to move the ruler on the fabric, reposition and continue cutting. so "yes", the slots are big enough to cut with rotary, but they are only 6.5" long so therefore would need to be moved around a bit, depending upon how long your bias tape would be. hope this helps.

are the scales etched?

Mine are just black on the ruler, no etching.

Are the grid lines built into the plastic or printed onto the plastic? I'm looking for a ruler where the grid lines don't disappear after using it.
