Which of the three channel selector (a, b, or c) is being used for dell n4010 laptop?

I no longer have the laptop I used it in. I remember using it in place of my DVD drive and changing some of the settings in the bios and/or control panel to allow the computer to recognize it. I was running a SSD drive and didn't use the selector and it worked just fine. The drive in my laptop was also a SSD. Hope it helps. This is not a dell part so they would not know what you were talking about. This Caddy is brand neutral. My laptop was a Toshiba. Hope this helps.

I was wondering what the 3 way switch will do? I did a plug and play and it worked. But, the speed of the drive is low (I'm booting from caddy)

I also am trying to find a more technical answer to this. But what i have found out, it has something to do with making it compatible with varying laptops. If your having trouble putting pc to sleep then switching switch can solve this. 
But as far as what each position does, i have not found that info yet. 
You can try in another position to see if your speed changes.

I see there ia a small switch on the side, is that for configuration on what laptop it will work on? if so I have a dell on what position up or down?

Never noticed a switch and it worked on my Dell.

What is the "three channel" feature designed for? many people asked, but few got an answer. does this "ground" something? how should toshibas use it?

Thats just for the connector size. If you have a model that works with it and can use the sata connector on the caddy you should be good. Theres a handful of youtube videos out there that can help with this one what you need for your laptop. The only reason i got this was because hp support pointed me in the direction of this drive caddy and set it would work.
