I want to sew this into a project for a toddler. Is it safe for young children and can a domestic sewing machine penetrate the fabric.

I have sewn it into a quiet book for an infant. It may mean that that page has to be washed/wiped by hand.

Does the reflective backing contain amalgam (i.e., mercury)?

These Q-Bics Mirror stickers don't contain anything excluding Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol.

How do I place an order for custom sizes?!

It is not custom size but you can cut it up.

Will this stick to clothing, like a sweatshirt?

it may stick but it will not washable
