Compressor or peltier cooled?

Thermoelectric. No compressor. There is a fan that makes a whirring sound. I actually liked the sound - reassured me it was running. Just finished a weeklong road trip and was very happy with this unit!

Will it keep potatoe salad for 8-9 hrs?

The cooler does a good job of maintaining refrigerator-like temperatures so long as it stays plugged in. Think of it like a portable refrigerator rather than a traditional ice-chest cooler. It has reasonably good insulation, but once it is unplugged, the cooling stops. We used on a cross-country trip and it keep items cool all day. But we transferred everything to the hotel refrigerator each night, because even though an AC cord is supplied, this cooler is not designed to run for days at a time.

Does it come with power cords?

The Mobicool MT35W Thermoelectric Cooler comes with a power cord that can plug into a 12 volt DC in the car and another extension that plugs into 110 AC .

i have to put insulin in this. Will this cooler keep it at between 36 and 46 degrees?

I would not put store any important medicines like that unless it is for a short term. Remember when you turn off the car the battery will not keep it running.
