just need the bottom pad unit for dry?

The mop head is used for wet or dry. It just depends on the disposable pads you buy, the wet ones or the dry ones.

Is there a box of stiffer wet pads?

The mop comes with 3 wet pads in an aluminized envelope bag (not box) and 7 dry cloths in a plastic bag. Altogether, they come in a box. Hope I was able to answer your question. Wish you all the best.

Does this item come with the pole?

Mine came with the bottom, 2 metal poles, and a top handle. It's the perfect height for me but if you don't get all the poles try returning it and asking for the poles. I would 10/10 recommend this product for mopping though.

Can i use it to wash painted walls?

Yes I use it on my bathroom walls and Ceiling and it works wonderful even on the wallpaper
