Good sound quality. Affordable
Replace my genelecs that died after only 6 years. Never buying genelecs again. Owned the previous yamaha hs80m for 10 years and sold them still working. Hopefully these will be just as reliable. They sound good for the money.

Worth every dollar. You'll hear exactly what is being played. No sauce. Listen to Dark side of the moon with these.

Excellent for any studio set up
If you've done your research... you know these are the bees knees at this price point. I've gone through multiple studio monitors over the years and these easily take the cake. Highs, mids, lows all come through excellent.

Great for studio work
I owned these in college, loved them, but sold them during a lay off. I'm happy to have purchased them again. They arrived safe and functional. My studio is almost complete.

Great monitor for the price...Are they better than previous HS80's - not sure.
Wasssap mothalovas! I'm coming from the previous model HS80, as one of mine recently blew. It's been interesting comparing the two. I thought they'd be more similar from most of the reviews I've read, but I feel like they definitely have uniquely different sounds. The HS80 (previous model) seemed to be a bit more tamed, with less pronounced highs. I think the new HS8's may need some burn in time, but at first listen, they seem almost shrill to my ears. They definitely seem clean, but I feel like the HS80's had a more pleasing overall sound. The HS8's may be better for mixes, but time will tell. I always thought the 80's had a good combo of delivering an accurate mix, while also still sounding good to listen to. I'll have to see if the break in (and time) makes me favor these more, but right now, I'm sort of wishing I bought a used HS80 instead of the new set of HS8s. With all that being said, I still do feel like these monitors are the best bang for your buck that you can buy, and the differences may decrease after breaking the new speakers in, but these are my initial thoughts, and will update if things change. I would still recommend these as a great set of mixing speakers. They pack a lot of punch, and do sound crisper than the HS80's...I'm just not sure if that extra crispness is as pleasing to my ears personally. I'm listening to everything from "Betty Davis Eyes" to Droid Bishop to give these a good listen. Currently cautiously optimistic.

Danke bin rundum zufrieden!!!

These are real studio monitor speakers and also very large and heavy. People looking for multimedia speaker should keep away from this. Build and design- suberb manolithic design and build is rock solid. Accessories- only power cord. Sound-They have nearly flat sound with bright mids, smooth highs with light tight bass. Mids- Mids are bright thin sounding. They reveal suberbly. But they are unpleasant to listen for long duration. If you increase volume to get bass punch the mids becomes too bright and powerfull which causes ear fatigue. So low to moderate volume is best. Nealy 60 to 80db.. more then that it causes ear fatigue within short time. Highs- Highs are suberb smooth and refined. They are not as harsh as other monitors. Bass- Bass is of very high quality and precise. But they lack quantity compared to other 8 inch monitors. This is a blessing because this speakers can easily used in moderate to large rooms. With some room treatment it can also be used in small rooms. They do not push too much air or create high pressure like multimedia speakers. So bass do not compromise other sound frequencies. Everything sounds crystal clear across the freq range. For most people woofer is not required. They cover lows till 40hz easily. But for people who want to work on bass part very accurately like in back ground score or bass heavy music they may need woofer. And also these speakers needs some volume to give out bass accurately. So people who work on projects for many hours a day, may need accuracy at very low volume to protect their ear, may need woofer separately. Soundstage/Imaging- Imaging is very good and accurate. But placement of the speakers and room is very important to get clear image. Some experiment is required to get it accurate. Setting: There is volume control, room/low freq trim and high freq trim so that we can easily adjust to our room condition. At this price range these are the most analytical monitors. They can also be used as multimedia speakers but you should have high quality sound files which are also be of high grade recording /mastered. Lastly they are huge and heavy. So decide according to room size or working space. You should keep them atleast 2 to 3 feet away from wall. Two speakers should be separated atleast 5 feet and you should sit in a position which creates equilateral triangle. So if you are into professional sound mixing this will do the job. NOTE: CANNOT BE USED FOR TV's as they are too much revealing which makes sound unpleasant.
