Cat’s favorite, now we have three
Since it’s so so pricey, I tried others first, but this is the only box my cats like. I got one when they were kittens and used the side opening as well as the top. They would barely use the other boxes at all. Once they were able to easily manage the jump, I switched to top entry only. They continue to prefer the top. The boy cats are large, and high pee-ers. Having tried all the high side boxes, this is the only style that works to contain their waste. It looks good, and is very easy to clean. Since it’s completely contained you don’t see the mess and can keep them out, in a living space. Which leads to more scooping. Which everyone benefits from. The liners last a long time, if you scoop regularly . I dont know if the filters do anything, really, but I keep replacing them periodically. The top is fiddly to assemble, with a fragile frame that is easy to break when putting it together, if you’re not careful, but once installed works great. Just be gentle at first when assembling the top frame. The pieces that slide together can break off. For our first one, I had to use gorilla glue after snapping the tab on one side. It’s still working years later. For the others I didn’t make that same mistake. After a year I realized you didn’t have to remove the top to scoop. It folds and rests in the grooves in the top frame. We had 2 for a long time but when the cats became 3yrs old, we moved and they let us know they needed a 3rd box. I didn’t want to spend the money, again, $600 on litter boxes?!? I can’t do it!! and thought I didn’t have the space for another one, so once again tried cheaper boxes. It was a total bust. The one cat peed in front of it again and again. He kept trying to get in, and failed . Then the pee spots expanded, the cats hissed around all the boxes, the situation was a mess and getting worse. Finally I broke down, got the 3rd one, found a place for it, and immediately harmony was restored and no more accidents. It’s worth it to me now. If they ever break, unlikely since they are so sturdy, but if we moved and one of them cracked or something, I will replace it. I hope they keep making them.

Expensive! But worth the price for me
I had this litter box for almost a year now and thought its time for me to give it a review. First of all, the quality is nice and very sturdy and not made with some cheap plastic material. It is probably the most expensive non-automatic litter box out there but definitely worth the price for me. I tried to save some money in the past and brought other litter box in the 20-80 dollars range and they all have some problems. This one has NONE (except for the hooks which I'll talk about later). It is really the last litter box you'll ever need to buy. My cat is a 15lb Ragdoll and my boyfriend and I have tried about 5-6 litter box/tray. We tried some other XL size top entry litter boxes and they are just NOT BIG ENOUGH. The bottom side is always smaller than the top opening side, and the round or oval shape of those litter box means that they are not as big as they claimed. Litter pans/trays can be big enough, but you will have to deal with the smells and you will have to clean up the litters on the floor. This is really the ONLY litter box that is big enough and minimizes litter tracking on the floor. The Liner: I LOVE the liner design! All I have to do is unhook the liner, pour out the remaining litter, and wash/wipe the liner. The liner is very durable. The manufacture's website says they are good to use for up the 3 months. However, the liner has been on backorder and out of stock fairly frequently so I had to keep reusing it for the past 9 month and IT IS STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. The liner finally has stocks in last week so I purchased it, but I could have continue to use the old one without a problem. The only issue I have is the hook that attaches the liner to the conner of the litter box. It does NOT lock. So when my cat scratches the liner after he poops or pees trying to bury his waste, the hook would come out. I fixed by taping it to the litter box. It did the trick but still would appreciate if there is some sort of locking for the hooks. Again, Love it! Buy it! Especially if you have big cat!

Love, love, love this litter box!
Yes, I do love this litter box, it's a complete game changer for me and my kitties. No more liner bags in the bottom of a box with a removable lid. One kitty would pee on the side and it would seep out of the box to the liner lip, which I kept turned up to catch it. Not having to deal with liners and removable lids has made it so much easier. Just flip up the from part of the lid on this box and scoop it out, and I tend to scoop through the top entry hole for the rest of the box. So easy that I now tend to clean it out multiple times a day, instead of just once a day. And I love the sturdy liners, so much better than the bag liners I had been using on my other litter boxes. Assembly was really easy and fast. The top frame slides together, insert the hanging pins for the bag on the slots on the frame and the frame fits into the slots in the top of the box. After the frame is inserted in the box, put in the liner, match the holes on the liner with the hooks on the pins, hang and they will hold it securely in place. Slip the top into the slots in the frame, slide back and lift the back so it slides over the lip, unfold the front section and it's ready. The lid can be folded, then pulled forward in the slot and swiveled up for easy access to the litter too. Easy as that, and these pins holding the liner, can not come off the frame without removing the frame from the box. Even then you'd have to pull them off. My new box came with a charcoal bag to insert on the under side of the lid, which my first one did not have.. Each time I go by one of my boxes, I am so thankful that I invested in this marvelous littler box and a feeling of peace comes over me that I have moved on from the other type of litter boxes. And I don't dread having to go clean out the box, it's just not the chore it used to be. This box combined with the Litter Genie XL has made a huge difference in my kitty litter tasks, it all feels so much quicker and easier than before and I walk away feeling it isn't the dreaded chore it used to be. Thank You Modcat for the ability to have such a system with the quality liner and the excellent product. This was the right box and system for me, exactly what I was looking for and it has not disappointed me at all. I am completely pleased with the product. And as I saw in another review, the only downside is the scoop handle that has the open slots on the top, which pick up litter in them. But I intend to wrap tape around the handle to remedy that oversight with the backward handle, the open slots should be on the back, not the front. One more plus, it has handles on the sides that make it so easy to pick up and move. I was so thankful for them when I had to move the box out of my laundry room because of ants. Right now I put my kittens to bed there and with the ants, I had to move them out for a few days to put down my bait. And it was so easy just to pick up the litter box and move it out and then back into the laundry room two days later. Ants gone and happy Mom and kittens!

Review Edited- Modkat is great for large cats
I have bought much cheaper litter boxes that held up more longer than this thin cheap plastic box. Its a decent design, and my cat likes it since he is the hover-in-the air pee cat. But when I assembled this initially, everything went well, everything fit well. Couldn't help but notice everything was so cheap. Then I just cleaned it today and tried to take it apart, gently. And the frame with the siding tabs, and the hooks broke. This company is awful, and their customer service is doubly awful. This is one of the companies people talk about online that needs to be boycotted. They charge you a huge sum of money, use the cheapest possibly material that doesnt stand up more than a month's use so that you can keep buying their atrocious parts. Its like the entire company made a bet as to how fast consumers come to their senses about how cheaply manufactured their components are. Its a travesty that even China made products hold out longer than this ModKat broken litter box. Edit Oct 2020: Customer service reached out to me immediately and sent me a free replacement. I have since been extra careful and gentle with everything and its holding up. So far its been great for an extra large cat. My only minor complaint is the price of liners which is about $40-$45 for 3 liners. I tend to replace the liner once every 2-3 months. I use tofu litter so the smell seems minimal. But despite cleaning the liner once a week, it starts to smell and degrade after 6-8 weeks. I wish they were slightly cheaper. Updated rating to 4 stars.

Totally worth it
Update: I've had this box for two years, and I just bought a second one. It is hands down the best litter box I've purchased. The liners do a remarkable job of keeping the box clean. The first one is still going strong. Yes, I did hesitate several months before purchasing this box...two reasons: price, and questions on the size. Regarding size, if I had a single, non-chonky cat I would get the regular-sized ModCat. With a multi-cat household and/or a bigger cat (15+lbs), or even just a cat who enjoys a roomy catbox experience, the regular box is likely too small and you'll want the XL ModCat. Regarding price, I'll come back to that in a minute. This is a well-made catbox. Things I like: -the sturdy liners make it easy to clean. -if you're not sure whether your cat is down using a top-loader, no problem! The XL comes with one top-loader and one front-entry liner. -easy to assemble (which is good as the directions were hard to read) -the included litter scoop. I have other boxes with scoop hooks, which is nice...unless the box's orientation makes the hook inconvenient or useless. The ModCat's scoop is designed to hook on the rim, meaning you can attach it to any part of the catbox. Nice touch! -it's not ugly--which is to say, it's clearly a catbox but it's quite a bit nicer than a pan of sand and turds. -the design--low door and smaller top-entry hole--make it more difficult for the dog to go on fishing expeditions. Things I would change (but that aren't deal-breakers): -you can't close off the catbox entry not used: if your cat uses the top you can't block the front entry for sand-kickers (though I suppose you could turn the liner around). And you can't block off the top-entry, which would really foil the snack raids. So am I happy I spent roughly $100 on a catbox? Yes, I am. It's a well-designed, highly-functional product. They even made a cat toy out of part of the packaging (and included a ping-pong ball to use in it)! Totally recommend.

Best non mechanical litter box ever
This litter box is everything. It’s so spacious! My cat didn’t want to enter through the top so I let him use the side entrance and he’s thrilled. Best litter box I’ve ever had.

Life Saver! Cats Love It, I Love it!
We have two elderly cats who have always used their litter boxes in a catio, which is attached to the house, through a swinging cat door. Our male cat became nervous after we had several guests and two dogs in the house this Christmas and began using our bed and one of our couches as his litter box. I tried several things to keep him off the furniture, but we still had the problem. I hated to have a litter box in the house, but ordered this one, cleaned out a spot under a counter in our laundry room, and problem SOLVED! The cat is large, and this box works well for him. The cover is great, keeping everything in where it belongs, the liner is absolutely fantastic and sturdy. It is working wonderfully for both cats and no more accidents. My only negative would be that the instructions for putting the box together are drawings and I thought not very clear. I did finally get it built and it is perfect, attractive and sturdy, easy to scoop, and the cats are comfortable with it. I'm super happy!!

Very Disaapointed
I had my eye on this box for a long time thinking I would upgrade one day. Upgrade? Not so much. I cannot recommend this litter box -- consider saving your money. First, the price is outrageous for what this is. I am very unhappy with this box for the price and feel like I got played on yet another basic litter box that touts itself as special. This box is worth $60, at most. The outer shell is pretty sturdy, but the rest of the contraption is flimsy. Every time I need to clean the box, the top frame (which is two pieces) falls apart and the whole thing comes off. The frame doesn't click/secure together, so it's constantly in need of attention. Then the front entry door falls into the litter and I have to reassemble the whole thing every time I touch it. The clips that hold the liner feel like they will break any day and the liners themselves offer no convenience for my needs -- it feels like it is in the way rather than being helpful. I wouldn't be able to use it as intended because it also feels like urine will soak the liner pretty quickly. For this price, I shouldn't need to be buying new parts every couple of months. I measured this and ordered a smaller inner liner box to help manage cleaning. By dimensions, it should have worked but due to the rounded corners and shape of this box, the smaller box doesn't fit inside and I can't find one that does. It is also not really that big considering its labeled as XL. I figured tons of smaller boxes would fit nicely inside, but was wrong. Overall, I don't recommend this and I have a lot of regret. There wasn't an option to return, and I just feel jipped by another overpriced litter box. I wouldn't purchase again and I feel the company should consider some level of satisfaction guarantee at this price point.
