Hayward SPX1082CA Basket Assembly Replacement for Select Hayward Automatic Skimmers

These are the exact replacements I needed for my pool. The handle cracked on my old ones and they turned a dingy off white color. One also had a crack in the side. These ones arrived all bright and crisp white. The slipped right into the swimmers and we're the right size for a perfect fit. They have just enough weight to sink comfortably into the skimmer with no gaps around the edges for debris to slip through. They're super easy to install by removing the skimmer cover and dropping them in. I suspect they'll last a long time.

This basket is a perfect fit and works well. Unfortunately the base is not weighted. The vendor did not claim it was weighted. It was my bad assumption that the weight was not necessary. When the pump is not running the basket will float up and out of position. When the pump turns on again the basket is sideways and does not work. Solution is to keep a rock or some other weight in the basket to prevent it from floating. Bottom line: Buy the basket with a weight - not this one.

OEM part arrived in manufacturer packaging and fit perfectly in our (circa 1991) Hayward SP1082 pool skimmer. The previous basket cracked after many years of service; this was a perfect replacement.

I bought two of these Hayward Skimmer Baskets (at separate times) to replace 10 year old baskets for our pool. I priced these at our local pool store and saw that they were at least $6-7 more expensive per unit. I purchased them from Amazon instead and they are a perfect fit and work well. My only gripe is with the shipping. Each unit ships in a plastic bag within a typical, large Amazon box. Unfortunately, the box is a bit too large and the basket jostles around a bit too much. Unfortunately, one of the basket's handle broke, but I just pulled one off an old basket and the problem was solved. Pool is nice and clean, regardless.

As for the product, it is plastic. Expect it to last three to five seasons before it gets "cheesy" and deteriorates from pool chemicals. It will remain serviceable for a few more seasons before completely disintegrating. However, the handle is very poorly engineered. Expect it last three or four days before the plastic "teats" begin letting the handle pop out of the holes meant to hold them. Eventually, one or the other will snap off and you will have to "fiddle" with the basket, getting it in and out without a handle to grip. It is possible to tie up a usable handle using a few loops of stout fishing line, maybe 80# test or better. It won't last forever, but it will be easy to replace and will actually work better than the flimsy handle with the flimsy nubs that comes with the basket. I suppose the holes in the basket which fit the nubs could be drilled out to accommodate a rope handle, but rope might be hard to fit into the space between the basket and its receptacle. Fishing line works because it is so thin and fits in the space available. Perhaps someone at Hayward will eventually recognize the product deficiency and design a handle adequate for user needs. Why does the handle need to be removable? Why not make the basket and its handle out of the same piece of molded plastic? There would be nothing to come loose. It would be stronger and require far less maintenance attention.

my pool has two skimmers, and typically once every other season, one of them will fail. The failure point is almost always near the bottom of the skimmer, usually happening when the vacuum is hooked up . My guess is that the plastic eventually gets brittle and breaks. Not a big deal typically, and it does happen with enough regularity that it's worth having an extra skimmer basket on hand. Which is where these come in. The Hayward baskets are trusted brand, and they aren't extravagantly pricey or anything so I keep one or two on hand for when I lose a skimmer basket. With that said, they aren't any different from any other skimmer basket.

Good replacement for the baskets that came with my skimmers. Don't care for the handle so I replace with one that mounts to the bottom of the basket.
