makes a good campfire sandwich
This is the perfect size for standard bread. If you let the edges hang over they will get pressed closed and burn off in the fire for a seal. If you squish the bread totally inside, it will make a tight shaped sandwich, but you can access the insides. The handles are threaded making it easy to take them off when needed.

Camping Fun at its best.
Camp pies!!! Ok we have gotten a little crazy with our pie iron. Start with 2 pieces of bread and let your imagination go wild. Pies, grilled cheese, pizza sandwiches, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, corned beef hash and egg. Ha ha have fun experimenting. I really like this iron for the ridges and pocket size.

These break on first use.. Garbage!
Utter garbage.. I bought six of these, planned a fun day with kids to make pudgy pies in the campfire. Three of them, the handles just busted off. They don’t close properly so the bread burns inside. Such a huge waste of money. I’m not sure who wrote these other reviews, but these are garbage.. Stay away!

Pie Iron
This item is very useful for camping, especially if you are a creative cook. It works wonderfully for toasted sandwiches, individual pies, mini-pizzas, and makes a great variation on smores. You're only limited by your imagination, and by whatever tastes good in a crust. The actual pie iron is a good size, easily fitting two pieces of bread with lots of filling, and the length is sufficient for any normal campfires. It does feel a little bit loose, though I have yet to experience any problems as a result of this.

Mmmmm...fire roasted sandwiches!
I bought two different versions of this same thing...the square one and the round one. I find that I end up using the round one more often because I'm often cooking little 'pies' in it while everyone else is roasting marshmallows around the campfire at night. The square one, however, is great if you've got a fire going in the afternoon and want to make some really good toasted sandwiches. We've used it with regular bread but also found that those 'sandwich thins' work really well. Couple tips on use (that I also noted on my review for the round version)...make sure to wipe it clean when you're done using it and don't let it get too hot when cooking (slow and steady wins the race).

Not at all what I had hoped
The size doesn’t really fit the bread, and although I followed the suggestions regarding oiling the inner surface, everything stuck. It took a lot longer to cook I’m an already strong fire than I thought we would need. The bread didn’t toast. All in all, I was quite disappointed.

Great
I had one like this when I was a kid.(66)now. I wanted this for house use, the medal handle is too long(camp fine use) It cooks great crilled cheese, and I put peaches in place of cheese, Great peach pies....

BUY IT
I gotta tell you, I absolutely LOVE mountain pies (hillbilly name for campfire sandwiches). This thing does great. I've had absolute garbage aluminum ones that kick off after a use or two. Not this one. I've had it going on 6 months and LOVE it.
