Good value! 4.5 hours to assemble.
Our fitness center closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we got model MWM-988 to work out at home. I had no choice but to assemble it myself—my husband is not handy and we didn’t want to have someone come to our house to assemble it. I am a 58 year old woman under 5 feet tall—I read and followed the instructions and put the whole thing together in two evenings —about 4.5 hours total. That does not include all the trips my husband made carrying the parts to our basement. He helped me hold some of the parts but otherwise I assembled it myself. The instructions are fairly clear but there is a lot of different screws, washers, nuts etc, so you need to pay attention. Everything is labeled with assembly diagrams and all the parts fit together nicely. No issues with screw threads being off or stripped. I cannot imagine successfully putting this together by ignoring the instructions. Several times I had to stop and really study the diagrams—but it was possible. I just took my time. Like other reviewers commented, the sheet metal cover to the weight stack came all banged up. But the user manual has an email address and phone number to request replacements for damaged or missing parts and guarantees 100% satisfaction. There was no answer to the phone, so I emailed the part number, my Amazon order number, and my address—and within only a few hours they replied to say that a replacement part was being shipped. To me—that is very good service. (But I do think that they should pack this better so it arrives undamaged). The sheet metal cover is held on by 8 screws—we were able to assemble the entire gym with the damaged cover and use the gym while we wait for the replacement part to arrive. We will be able to swap out that part without needing to remove any other parts. This home gym is good for the price we paid. It offers a lot of different exercises. The 150 pound weight stack on Model 988 that we got is enough weight for my husband. The online description is accurate. The equipment works well, and the pulleys operate smoothly. The sheet metal weight stack cover has a big sticker on it that displays all the ways to use the equipment. That’s very handy. The only exercises that don’t work excellently are the standing leg pulls (with the lower pulley and the ankle strap). The pulley is designed to pull UP, but when standing, with the ankle strap on, you are pulling OUT more straight from the wheel. The design of the equipment means that each time you pull OUT with your ankle, it also brings the swinging black leg bar out with it a little bit, and then after a few inches, that swinging leg bar (which you are not using) drops and bangs back against the gym. The exercise works fine, but that banging of the swinging black leg bar while you’re using the pulley is a little annoying. They should have added a pin to hold this firmly in place while using the leg pulley. All other exercises work great. Our set came with two carabiner clips but as far as I can tell. this set needs 3 so that you can do all the exercises without having to remove and “borrow” one of those clips. The lat bar needs both clips—one for each end of the chain. But the ankle strap also needs one. I had a spare carabiner clip at home that we are using for the ankle strap. Overall I do recommend this home gym. We are pleased with it. Although it doesn’t say that it needs a mat, we did purchase one (separately) because we have hard wood floors. We are using a 36” x 78” basic treadmill mat and it fits fine—it could have been several inches shorter and still would have been fine. If my review was helpful, please let Amazon know by clicking “helpful”. Thanks. IMPORTANT UPDATE: I failed to adjust the tension (of the pulley cables) correctly at assembly, so two weeks into using this gym, one of the pulley cables “jumped the track” and came out of its wheel. This stripped part of the rubber coating off of the pulley cable. Please read this to avoid my mistake: Two booklets come with the gym: (1) the Assembly Manual and (2) the Owners Manual. The Assembly Manual has all the step by step instructions for assembly. BUT the Owners Manual has important “please read before assembly” information including (on page 7) how to properly adjust the tension of the cable. READ THE OWNERS MANUAL BEFORE assembly (I wish I had). Then, when assembling the gym, please not the following clarifications to the Assembly Manual: 1. Parts 30 (pages 3 and 23 ) have 4 different sets of holes for adjusting the pulley cable tension. After you are all finished assembling the entire gym, go back to part 30 (page 23) and make sure that you use the hole that makes the cable comfortably snug. 2. Double check that you have both parts 74 placed correctly (there are two). Part 74 is shown on pages 4, 20, and 23. It is a metal “L” shaped guide which keeps the pulley cable inside the tracks of the two wheels attached to part 30 (see #1 above). Parts 74 should be positioned so that when you operate the gym, they do not abrade (rub up against) the rubber coating of the pulley cable. 3. Double check that parts 12 (pages 2 and 17) swing freely (are not too tight). When you operate the gym, they should be able to move in order to stay aligned with the pulley wheels directly behind them (those pulley wheels are installed on page 21). Those two pulley wheels are attached to part 14 (page 21) and ALSO should swing freely to stay aligned with parts 12 while you operate the gym. I hope this is helpful to you. If it is, please let Amazon know by clicking “helpful”. Thanks.

Great home machine, a bit of a challange to assemble.
It came yesterday and I am happy to give it a good review already. Delivery: 5 stars - It came 10 days earlier than expected, which was honestly unexpected. Shipped in 3 boxes, which certainly made it easier to move into my home. Assembly: 3.5 stars - Assembly took time, I was lucky to have some proper tools myself because I do not think you could tighten the bolts with the Allen wrench provided. Defiantly recommend a ratchet wrench. The instructions are not great, but do a good enough job to get it together. But assembly was a workout in itself and took a few hours to complete. That said all the parts were present, and easy enough to put together. Size: 5 stars - it is a good sized machine, compact enough that It isn't overwhelming, but still going to take up a good bit of space. Might be a little too big for people with limited space, but it was perfect for me. Workout Quality: 5 stars - I am very happy with what I can do with this. It provides a good variety of exercises, and has a diagram with the recommended uses on the machine. I will say there is some improvising I will be doing with it to add some functionality to it, and I might buy some additional accessories/grips for my preferences, but with what is provided I do feel like I can get a good total body workout. Movement is smooth and consistent, and it does not make much noise (other than what you would expect from weights). Weight range: 4.5 stars - the weight range itself is perfect for my needs, my only gripe is that the weights are not clearly labeled. It has levels labeled as 1- 15 rather than identifying how much weight it is. Given that it is a 150 lb range advertised I assume that each stack is 10 lbs, but I would rather it was labeled that way. But otherwise it is fine.

Great machine once assembled
So I’m completely satisfied with the home gym and the exercises it allows you to perform. But after spending a whole afternoon building it here’s some advice, keep the nuts and bolts together on the the packing it comes on, I used a razor knife and slit the packing and kept it there removing only what I needed each step, secondly, you’ll need to watch a couple YouTube videos to help with assembly, the instructions aren’t enough, it’s easy to get ahead of yourself and construct it wrong especially when you get to cable assembly. Once together it’s a nice machine, it’s not wobbly and it’s sturdy. If you have a person to help it would be helpful, I put mine together by myself. Of instructions were better written and therefore easier to assemble I probably would have given it five stars. Good luck.

It’s easy
Sooooo I forgot the shock absorbers while getting started for the weights and didn’t realize till after it was all built! OTHER THAN THAT, the range of motion is nice but I would of liked maybe a different chain length, the one given is too long for certain exercises and removing it you will not get a full range of motion. It does not move while I work so it’s very stable for me I don’t feel it teeter tottering either which is annoying. The pieces do not come with numbers but the instructions are very well detailed if I had another to help me build it I’d be done in an hour maybe less. The instructions are very detailed and if something is confusing they have a video on YouTube of the building instructions for you to see the whole building process I used it twice on a few things I was confused on helped out a lot. It’s smooth but at the same time it feels rugged kinda probably just gotta break the cables in but I really like it so far just wish more attachments came with it

Great price,great home gym
Great home gym. Great price. If you're looking to become Mr. Olympia, this is not the gym, but if you're looking just to add some muscle on or keep tone, this is perfect. I bought this because I'm tired of the gym scene. I'm a lot older now. Don't need to be around those people want to be able to just walk out of my bedroom and work out. This is perfect. If you're looking for a gym that is going to put muscle on, that doesn't cost the bank. And actually works, this is a super easy to put together. The instructions you can't screw it up.There's no way to screw it up.It's step by step.Everything is labeled, so if you think this is going to be too complicated. You're wrong. It took me almost three hours to put it together, and that's taking my time.If you're gonna purchase this gym, get the bottom mat perfect. And then ask for the room delivery, which I think is like $20 extra. That way you don't have to stress on it. Highly recommend.

Great Workout Station for the Price!
I’m very happy with this workout station! The price was great, and the quality exceeded my expectations. It’s sturdy, easy to use, and works perfectly for my workouts. It offers excellent value for the money, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good home gym station.

decent entry level unit, but can outgrow quick
I bought this as a entry into home weight lifting. I loved the idea of a 1 peice does all concept. Be able to do tons of excercises for 1 price. But i learned quickly you'll outgrow it, and the quality of the machine and its exercises leaves something to be desired. Good: very good entry level all in one unit. Relatively easy to assembe and use. Great for beginner or casual excerise, saving the need for gym membership or other equipment. Bad: Within a few months of using the lower cable started to shred to peices. I triple checked that everything was assembled and installed correctly. I determined that the unit was manufactured in a way that cause the cable to rub in a spot that created this problem. To Marcy's credit when i contacted them and showed them, they replaced the parts free of charge pretty quickly. But it did represent the quality of the product in my opinion. Another issue with the unit is the Machine is so easy to outgrow. Excerises like leg extension you can easy outgrow the weight stack. Also there will be other excerises you'll not be able to do with this unit (squats, incline bench, etc) you'll be wanting to do things this machine isn't capable of. More so though, and my biggest complaint is the machines actual capabilities. The cable travel is terrible. The range of motion you'll get on some exercises is unacceptable. Even with the chain they give you'll bottom out the cable without getting full range of motion on a lot of excerises. Also things put you in weird positions to do the exercises. like the seated bench is fine but the starting point is out in front of you so you can't get good deep full range reps. The pec fly is even worse. I resorted to all sorts of crazy things to try to get that fixed and nothing worked, it was just frustrating. In the end i upgraded to a Mikolo Smith machine which I LOVE!! so my recommendation is this. If your a beginner and don't have the desire to progress much or take weights serious this machine may work fine for you. If your starting and want to progress, skip this machine and use that money toward something better. I still use it for a sparse few exercises, but i think its going for sale this summer.

workable partial solution during COVID crisis
First, there are really no instructions, no instructional video, zip. I assembled mine after a few false starts, no parts were missing. Download the pdf manauals from marcypro.com site (easier to enlarge on screen) and visualize all the steps in your mind to come up with a plan for dealing with assembly problems. For example, make Sure to thread the cables all the way through before connecting pulleys, as you won't be able to get the cable ends past the pulleys and you'll have to disassemble them and begin again. Don't assemble while tired as you're really going to have to pay attention - there's no guidance or warnings on any potential problems. My large metal plate arrived totally messed up (as others have reported), we'll see how their tech support (which doesn't answer the phone) deals with this. The 'home gym' seems to have been designed by someone with little engineering experience who also doesn't actually workout. They've never heard of 'kinesthesiology' and probably couldn't pronounce it - or the word 'engineer'. It could have been so much better. The bench press is designed to impinge your shoulder joints. Taking your arms back past 90% is not a good thing - and certainly not bio-mechanically correct. You'll have to do less weight so as not to permanently hurt your joints (assuming you were exercising correctly before - very few understand the correct range of motion). The flys are ok, better than nothing. The lats are actually quite decent. Best feature of the machine. Just apply some WD40 before your first use so the plates don't stick. Buy a decent rope for triceps https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FBH6F1D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, some Extra Wide Foam Grips exercise handles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013XGJWIS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1, a bunch of carabiner clips, and it will be basically workable - If you also have a bench and a set of dumbells. I stand in front of the machine, and with the foam handles mentioned above and the carabiner clips clipped to the very top lat hook, I can do decent rows. I haven't used it enough to figure the best way to do rows yet. All in all, for the money, I didn't see anything else that seemed better. If this COVID-19 crisis continues for 18 months, I'll look into spending a lot more to get something better. --- update 6 weeks later - upgrading to 4 stars --- First, Marcy shipped me a new metal panel to replace the one bent up in shipment within just a few days. I didn't actually want it, asked them to ship a much cheaper for them replacement cable set instead, but ... the did ship it promptly and that's good to know in case something goes wrong on the device. I found that using it for Lats works Very well, if you happen to have a pair of 10 lb leg weights to hold in your lap (which I do) so you don't lift off. Same for rows with a set of carabiners and some handles. Works quite well. The leg extension also feels decent, no complaints. If you really tighten the pulleys so there is no give, it works ok as a fly (using their rubber rollers instead of as a bench), but Only if you put a 4" piece of hard foam (like for Yoga), behind you about chest height. Of course, if the pulleys aren't loose, you can't do a bench that's biometrically correct, your shoulders are going to be Way too far back - so you'll have to do far far less weight, or else injure yourself. A bit of engineering design could have provided for this, to tighten for flys, and loosen for bench press, but ... that's not going to happen obviously. Add a tricep rope, and you can get a decent workout. Haven't tried the curls as I use a larger and larger set of dumbbells (as Amazon's stock improves). Everything indicates a 2nd wave, so ... if this become available, this is probably going to be your best bet. Just get a bunch of rubber dumbbells (Amazon Choice https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DZHYS6/ - just keep checking for availability 100 times per day as they become available sometimes for just a few seconds) and a bench and you can survive until the gyms open up (or open up and actually become safe, I should say?)
