Four Seasons 58948 Lightweight Compressor with Clutch

Perfect fit .Works as it should. New compressor and accumulator install in 1994 Chevy Blazer 1500 now have 39.8 degree A/C On a 90 degree Day.

The first one I ordered broke within 50 miles. They replaced it and the second one we put in went out at about 6000 miles. Extremely disappointed.

They didn't include the pressure cut-off switch on the back; only a plug. I didn't know this before hand. Fit was identical. Doesn't readily spin while on the vehicle so make sure you prime it correctly while the belt is off ( I think ).

Good quailty and price.

Purchased this A/C compressor and installed on a customer's 95 Chevy truck. The truck has been driven from Texas to Arizona twice along with several shorter trips since the installation with no A/C performance issues.

Install is always easy.

There was no gap between the clutch and pulley. Had to rent a clutch removal tool to pull the clutch out to get my .020 gap. Worked fine afterwards but what a pain. Most people wouldn’t have figured it out and trashed it or warrantied it.

I have used a lot of four seasons items over the years. Mostly they have all been good. This compressor was an absolute disaster. When I started the vehicle after installation, it made loud grinding sounds. I had flushed the system, replaces the accumulator and the orifice. The compressor was installed with the correct amount of PAG oil. I pulled the correct vacuum with my 134 machine and filled with the correct weight of 134. I talked with a Four Seasons rep on the phone and he advised running the vehicle to see if it would clear itself. He said to send it back if it didn't resolve and they would replace it. I did that and it stalled the engine when it locked up. Cannot ask for much more, except that it seems to me that a brand new compressor should have been checked before shipment. I am not real happy with the lack of quality control. Now I have to start over again. I operate an antique auto restoration shop and this is a real loser for me. I will be out almost a days' labor, not to mention all the other parts that will have to be replaced. At least Amazon agreed to replace the parts I sourced from them. That is the real bright spot here. I just bought a A/C Delco to replace this with.

I read the reviews (mostly negative)prior to purchase but couldn't pass on the phenomenonally low price of $121 CAD. Unit received is a new build and all bench testing prior to install checked out. I flushed and purged entire vehicle system and filled compressor with recommended oil as required prior to install. Install was easy as all gaskets were provided. Bearings have been quiet so far with about 1 hour of A/C system use but there is definitely some intermittent clutch drag when disengaged as previous reviewers have noted. I'll certainly monitor this over the next while and if it worsens I'll certainly make use of Amazon's excellent return policy. With the above noted all else appears to be functioning well. The only issue preventing a 5 star rating is the clutch drag, other than that the price was also better than RockAuto or PartsAvatar for identical unit .
