System Three 1600K20 SculpWood Putty Kit, 0.5 Gallon, Brown

I don't write a lot of reviews but I was so impressed with this product I felt I needed to share it. I have used about 3 or 4 different types of epoxy wood fillers for dry rot. I had a deep long defect and this was very pliable and could easily be packed deeply and completely in the defect. I layered on additional at the same time to level the repair out. The pliability and clay like consistency really makes a positive difference in usability. It drys to a firm hard, firm, and secure result. Hopefully it will hold up over the long haul. Highly recommended.

It's a little expensive, but I think it makes up for it in saved labor time. Once mixed, you have excellent working time before product begins to harden, which was very useful to ensure I got the product into all the nooks and crannies of the damaged area. Trimming and sanding the material was pretty easy with the right tools (similar to Bondo). My project almost took 2 half gallon kits, so make sure you purchase enough before you start. Also, make sure you check out the videos on YouTube or on the manufacturer web site prior to starting to using this product (very helpful). Overall excellent product. Hopefully it will continue to hold up to the weather for years to come.

Product works good. I like it better than another brand from the stand point of it doesn't get as sticky as fast. As you mix the 2 doughs it gets warm like all epoxies . As it warms it gets stickier like a wet dough. Thus brand lasts a little longer. However its tacky enough to stick to surfaces.(helpful to use liquid as a bonding coat as well) Too tacky and its unworkable. Sands well. Let it dry 24hrs. Always cover or oaunt as uv light bad for epoxies. Expensive yes, but is a good product.

Have used over 2 gal. of the System Three Putty for many exterior repairs with outstanding results. Having used other fillers for over 50 years switched to the the System Three Putty recently as it is an easy material to blend, and finish sand as required after hardening. Putty easily takes water and oil based primers and paints. For exterior ruff sawn finishes that require repair, as an added finish, prior to the putty hardening have pressed the putty surface prior to hardening (temperature dependent) with another ruff sawn lumber to add a ruff surface to match existing. An added benefit if you have used any other tools to apply the putty, the tools are easily cleaned using white vinegar.

Very strong as long as you knead it very well. When you mix I found that is best to do a fold and squeeze method but avoid making a hollow that makes air pockets. When it becomes a uniformed color mix it even more. You need to remove the soft rotted wood to the point that is difficult to dig out with a tool like a screwdriver. Then soak the area to be repaired with a non thinned, low viscosity epoxy like Git Rot. When the wood wont soak up any more epoxy, get the filler ready. It best to put the filler on while the epoxy is still tacky. The filler will also stick to clean smooth wood without epoxy primer to the point that if you try to remove it, you’ll tear the wood. The only thing that may be stronger is JB weld or Devcon but for the volume the cost is much greater, adherence to wood is less and ease or handling is poorer.
