Triplett BBT858L Byte Brothers Compact Digital Multimeter - AC/DC Voltage, DC Current, Resistance, Temperature, Continuity, Diode Check, and Transistor Check

The reason you're considering this Triplett BBT858L Byte Brothers Compact thing is portability and affordability. It's fine. There's nowhere to tuck the leads when not in use, and nowhere to tuck the little end caps to protect the leads when not in use, so it loses one of those portability points. All I've done so far is check some temperatures and the voltage of a fresh 9v battery. It's not auto ranging, so be careful. The whole manual is available on this Amazon page and it's not very thorough. Temperatures are in Fahrenheit, but the display says "°C" when in that mode. Maybe there's a way to change that, but the manual sure doesn't say. If you wanted one that did more, you'd fork over 4-20x the price. If you're just checking that your "fully charged" car battery is more than 10v, this will more than get the job done. Overall it's good for verifying suspicions, not great for more detailed discovery.

Plus it is rated Cat II for real 600 volt safety. Most other generic low cost multi meters are not cat certified. I used the transistor tester and it works good and is accurate for hfe readings. I like it very much for a simple multimeter.

Arrived with dead battery. Replaced, and tried it on dc voltage. Accurate when compared to fluke. Deducted a star because it doesn't autorange , turns on at the 600v range and of course the dead battery. Gradations are small and not that easy to read either. Would be nicer if they'd light up with the backlight, too. Had to push the transistor in a ways and wiggle it a bit to test it. Fairly good meter for the price though.

Great little meter. Cost was very reasonable. Only thing I would like is a case for it but I found another that allowed room for some other accessories as well.

While it seems like a solid little meter, and I like the feel of it, the description is a bit misleading - it doesn't measure AC current or deal with capacitors. Might be great for larger work outdoors, but not so much for my DIY home electronics projects. I'm returning it in favor of a DMM with those features - but without the backlight or thermostat.

Great value for the money. Very rugged units, owned two of this meters for several years and have used them on my electronic projects, automotive, etc.

Easy to use, very versatile.

Good VOM and the temp. readout is a great plus. Use With any type K thermocouple.

Put batterie in and turned on worked tried and didn't get proper readings it was all over the place, sent it back to bad liked the look.
