How many batteries does it need

I use 1 x 5ah battery that gives more than adequate long domestic use. If you have anything less than 4ah you would need X2. I blow out the nylon filter regularly on an air line to maintain 100% pick up efficiency. I have not tried washing it which would probably do the same

does the vacuum come with a carpet nozzle as per the picture?

Can this unit be used with a hose attachment attached to a circular saw or sander? Is it practical to do so for small amounts of cutting or sanding?

If you can adapt a hose from your workshop tool to fit over the 30 mm o/d pipe at the vac cleaner, you would have about 15min continious runing time and approx 1/2 pint dust volume

Is this much of an upgrade from the makita dcl180 version? thank you.

Upgrade? Yes! But still falls short of what you would expect for the cost v performance. I purchased this for my Motorhome but has now been replaced by the household handheld Dyson.
