Purchased open box return which arrived very fast, most likely direct from previous return customer. Chair arrived with back rest damage, something heavy landed on top of box and separated pad from back rest. Back rest had bend and dent but I was able to make a full repair, not sure if others could though. Chair works 100% like new except for a dent and couple bent areas in back rest that you do not feel when sitting on. I am 6’ and 240lbs and chair is great, would of liked an option to attach a head rest but I’ll be ok. It’s a great unassuming office chair that doesn’t get the looks of others so I am glad I didn’t pay the full price and to be honest, now that I have been using it for a couple of weeks, my mind has changed and I wouldn’t have minded paying full price now either. It’s a great work chair. Seat is very comfortable, back is comfortable, overall well built chair. I overly scrutinize and critique everything and the only complaint I have is that there’s a slight bend to back rest from previous damage. Those taller than 6’ should probably look at Steelcase Gesture or Leap V2 as those have taller backrest and or head rest options but those chairs are a lot more money. I think this Amia chair has a more comfortable seat pad anyways and I can use this chair for 8 hours a day and have no pain or stiffness in my back or legs. I cannot say that about other chairs. The chair is actually pretty nice and comfortable. Also, I like how adjustable it is. However, every time I sit back and actuate the chair, it makes a horrible sound like unlubricated metal rubbing on itself; it is really loud and obnoxious. I returned this chair to Amazon because I thought this was a defect and the next chair I got had the same exact issue. It is funny because I bought this chair because my old chair, which is 15 years old, started to makes these sounds and now this $700 chair is worse! I talked with Steelcase and they told me that this is indeed a defect and that I could get a new one, but that was a month ago and now they haven't been returning my follow-up emails. I would not recommend buying this chair.

The chair is great so far but I do think its only worth buying when it goes on sale and even then it is still pricey. Overall I really appreciate the adjustability and comfort of the arm rest and lumbar support. Once I found the optimal setup for the chair I started to enjoy using it more. It is very easy to assemble since all you have to do is place it on the base when you take it out of the box. Some reviews have said that the arm rests move too easily but I have not had this issue so far. I have had this chair only for about a month so I can't say anything about the durability of the chair. As for the issues with the chair I only have minor complaints. I think the lumbar support is a bit aggressive which is something to be aware of. The other issue I have is the price. I do not think this chair is worth around $1,000 when not on sale. I waited for it to go on sale and I still feel like the price was pushing it at $800. Long story short I like the chair, but I think its worth waiting for it to go on sale since the price seems higher than it should be.

I absolutely love this chair. I'll get to the cons in a moment but regardless it is still worth it. You see, I work from home in front of a computer and would literally burn through chairs practically every year. I have done the gamer chairs, the office chairs, the Amazon Basics budgets, and then some. It seemed that each year or so I would drop another 2-300 on a new chair and be sort of happy with my purchase (at first.) Mind you, I am writing this review two and half years after my purchase. This is already beyond the normal lifetime of many of the other chairs I have bought. The seat plates would deflate, the gaskets would blow, the castors would break, and so on. Each and every time it would be shortly outside of my ability to get a refund or repair. None of those issues exist with this chair. The only problems I have are cosmetic like having a coffee spill stain on the seat. Even that, I plan on fixing (which was my own fault and not an issue with the chair obviously,) with some upholstery cleaner. Regardless, even if anything does become an issue, Steelcase has an amazing 12 warrantee. Okay, now for the cons. One minor and one annoying but also minor. The first con is that you have to sort of learn how to sit differently than you would with a lot of other chairs. It took some getting used to in understanding the "live back" system how the reclining function of the chair works. I love it now, but it did take a bit of getting used to. The second is me just being a bit annoyed about paying so much for something and feeling that there are areas where the craftmanship is just not up to spec. Granted, they are mostly in areas you wouldn't be interacting with but there are sharp edges and loose movements in areas that I feel should be tight and clean. If I am going to pay around a grand for a chair, I want that to be polished. Still though, I am giving this a five star because in the end, it will be a cheaper chair for me than the dozen or so cheap and mid-range chairs I have bought over the years. ...and is more comfortable.

I initially bought two of these because I needed something ready-to-ship for new employees. I had just ordered other office chairs that required 3 weeks lead time, but needed something quicker. In the meantime, several people who sat in the Amia Chair asked me to get them one. For me, it is just the right amount of cushion, and the back puts my spine in a neutral position. All of the available adjustments make it just right for each individual. I had ordered a high-end mesh-back chair for myself, but ended up with the Amia instead because this feels better on my back. If you like the really padded, cushy chairs, this may not be for you. But if you need support and a neutral back position to avoid back pain, this is a great chair.

Its a well made chair I bought it refurbished (like $450) not sure it is worth that even though it is half price The seat looks well cushioned but hurts after just a few hours or sitting even with ergo seat cover It had very lose arms when I received it and have to disassemble to fix. Might want to look at other brands!

This review compares the Steelcase Leap and Amia chairs. The Leap was my daily work chair for over 10 years. I even bought one for my wife around the same time, and she is still using it. The Steelcase brand is terrific. They last. In fact, both of the Leap chairs still look, feel and function like new! With the ability to work-from-home, I needed a chair for my home office and once again took the opportunity to research chairs. After hours of investigation, I decided to give the Steelcase Amia chair a try. All the reviews said that the seat was a bit softer than the Leap. My opinion is that the Amia has a more comfortable seat with slightly thicker padding. Also, the shape of the back of the seat to the lower part of the back of the chair to the lumbar support really cradle my butt and lower back. I feel like the chair supports my sitting position while NOT putting pressure on my tailbone. The adjustable arms and most of the functionality of the Amia chair are the same as the Leap. The only difference is the recline adjustments. The Leap allows you to set 'stops' in different degrees of recline where the Amia only locks in the fully upright position. For me, if I'm in the chair I am tasking and not reclining. There is however a recline tension knob on the Amia that, when maxed out, offers plenty of resistance to the reclining function. Is the recline function as nice as the Leap? No. But for me it was a non-issue. The Amia chair is hundreds of dollars less than the Leap. It is built just as well, and I expect it to last just as long. It's a Steelcase.
