Many times I have put a cat-flap insert into a sliding glass door and bought a drop bar security lock so the door can still be quickly and easily locked, only to find the bar is jut a bit too long for the space remaining after the cat-flap insert is in. Then you have to install something at the top of the slider, or bend and move a dowel in the track every time you go in/out. Not so with this lock! It has a very adjustable length, even quite short if needed, and I was able to get it installed perfectly. Installation was easy, I put it in myself (female, 60) using my cordless drill/driver. I did not trust the adjustable black piece to hold the lock enough to prevent beak-in, but that was easily addressed by drilling a small through both overlapped metal "tubes" using a bit made for metal, then adding a set screw that fixed both tubes together, to make it even more robust. I actually added two set screws for good measure. And I put a little wire loop on the wall where it raises when open, to hold it when it's in the up position, so we don't lock ourselves out by the bar accidentally falling after closing (it hasn't yet, but it will become looser with use). My pro tip: if you are also using this with a cat-flap insert: go to the home improvement store and buy a roll of black EXPANDABLE foam weather strip to put on the vertical surface of the cat flap where the original slider door rests against it. The expandable weatherstrip comes in a fairly flat roll but when unrolled it expands. I got the .5-inch size and it was narrow enough to go on the insert yet absolutely perfect to allow for variations in the vertical surface. No gaps! The compressible weatherstrip plus adding a set screw to this bar lock also allowed me to get a very tight fit between the bar and the slider, making it very secure against anyone trying to wiggle it loose. If you have a 6-foot-wide sliding glass door, this lock will fit even with a medium size pet flap. So, I highly recommend this product.

A bear couldn't get into my door because of this bar. Very secure . One day a 4 ft bear was on my deck , setting in a patio chair backwards , drinking hummingbird food from feeder. it was scarey , but Bear couldn't get into my patio doors, luckily he didn't try to break the doors just try to push them apart. I am so glad I ordered this product.

Was perfect. I didn't want to put screws in my sliding door so I used Hot Glue to hold the little thing that holds the tip. I didn't think it would work but it did, for 3 days. So I used 3M super strength molding tape. That will hold forever. The makers of this product should reach out to 3M and make a pre-cut piece of tape part of this package.

This is a bad design and was cheaply fabricated. It is very flimsy. The bar is too short to work without the extension and is too long with the extension. The designer was bad at matb so the bar will not work for some door openings within the advertised range without adding a 1" wooden shim. The clip that prevents the bar from sliding to a shorter length does not always work, sometimes it collapses without depressing the clip. The black plastic foot at the end that fits into the retaining bracket is about 3/16" too small. The dimples in the rotating bracket that hold the bar upright when the bar is unlocked are easily sprung too wide which will allow the bar to fall into the locked position thereby locking you out of your iwn house. Fortunately the bar is so flimsy that a few strong pulls will defeat it and allow reentry if it locks you out. The rotating bracket is wobbly so the bar does not pivot in a smooth arc. The rotating bracket mounting surface is about 1/4" too short so the bar partially blocks the mounting holes thereby making it hard to use longer screws that would actually engage the wall studs. This is not nearly as good as the one I bought for a previous house. This will just be a temporary supplement to the broomstck in the track until I have time to fabricate something better and stronger.

I have a new home with a smaller arcadia door, the installation was pretty simple just make sure the mounts are centered and level. The extra square bar that came with it I used in the track of one of my smaller side sliding windows. It took my wife a couple of times but she figured out the bar locking clip and all is good. Another thing if you don't have a lot of flying bugs, then you can crack the Arcadia/Patio sliding door and lock it about 6" to let small animals in the house.

I see at the bottom of the page is an address for Ontario, CA, but I don’t believe it. The English on all of it is choppy, and has several typos. The biggest problem, however, is this: NO STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED! It tells you nothing about how to add the extension bar OR the end caps. They don’t click in easily, do I force them in? I ended up having to use a hammer for the extension bar, and slightly bending it. It also said “attach one end of the pre-drilled end caps to the End of the SECURITYBARPD (wtf is that?) and then screw the bars together using the threaded screw rod.” And how do I do that? I have no idea how the end caps are used in this scenario…but wait! Do you put the end of the instructions from two paragraphs ago with these instructions to find out? Maybe! Idk, I attached them together somehow, but it does NOT feel strong or secure at all. In fact, just lightly jiggling it with a fingertip makes it rattle a lot, and there’s too much movement. I also used a 3/32” drill bit because I was going to be screwing the screws in by hand and the 1/16th would have made me use too much effort. The instructions for how to install the lift lock and saddle CATCH (called a mount, and shown already together on pg 1, were also not very practical. When was the last time you held two separate pieces (lift lock; saddle mount) lined up and together with one hand, then extended the opposite bar over to that edge and set into the saddle, held all 3 of those separate things lined up and together one-handed while you grabbed a level with the other, and with your third hand (and your off-hand, to boot) grabbed a pencil to mark where to drill the holes? Then held all 3 of those loose parts together and lined up again while grabbing a drill to drill tue holes? Is there a particularly good reason why the saddle mount and lift lock aren’t ALREADY one piece? There should 100% be far more than 2 steps with an intro paragraph in MUCH larger font (since you won’t have a 4th hand to hold it up to your face). Step by step instructions aren’t supposed to be paragraphs; that’s your first clue that you’re putting too much together at once, then also doing it out of order doesn’t help. There’s also not a single link to an instructional video anywhere, so if you don’t already work with your hands assembling things all the time, you really aren’t going to be able to intuit how to get this put together.

It’s doing a great job of holding my aluminum frame, single pane, 1966 vintage sliding door squarely closed. The doorframe has gone off-center and the door no longer closes all the way at the top. I had my landlord install this device a bit higher on than pictured. I put the doorframe into place with one hand, and adjust the buckle mechanism on the bar with the other. The tighter close cuts down on draft and noise. Great temp fix until I can persuade the LL to spend $45k to replace the door.

Easy to install, locking mechanism works! We bought the white one which matches the frame. It looks great & so convenient to access, you don’t have to bend down to unlock!

This was an easy installation. Unlike other security bars, it is adjustable to fit a smaller opening. It fits well and the security tab creates an extra step to lift the bar to enable the patio door to be opened. It seems to be well built and we feel more secure with it in place.
