Can you remove the phone clip and attach a webcam (1/4" screw)?

I don't know if I'm missing a piece or not. How do I attach the top piece to the long flexible piece?

This IS a tough one to explain without pictures. Your flexible gooseneck has two ends. The simple end with a threaded screw goes into the base. The other side that has the ball-rotation-joint is the side that screws into the phone holder. The phone holder (“top piece”) has the option of either attaching to the gooseneck on the long side or the short side of the holder. I do hope this was clearer than mud. It took me some time to figure it out as well. Base-Gooseneck-knuckle with ball joint-phone holder. (Plus, a flat nut to secure the Gooseneck to the base)

Will it hold an IPhone 8 Plus?

I do not know, it holds my iPhone 7. I can pull open the spring closure grip to 3 inches.
