Blonde Bombshell

I was looking for a book as a gift for a friend. The friend had read the Hitchhiker's Guide series and enjoyed it, and wanted other Sci Fi in the same vein. After consultation with my local librarian (yay for libraries!), I tried reading Blonde Bombshell, by Tom Holt, to see if the book would fit those high standards. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, this book really succeeded. The humor is there, the quirky sensibility, the wry vision of alien tech, and a few twists and turns. A fun read! So I've now bought this copy for my friend. Shhhh!! I haven't given it to my friend yet.

Very good book. This book was enjoyable and I quickly read it as it was hard to put down. I wasn't sure from the other reviews whether I would like it but it exceeded my expectations. I thought the plot was interesting and there were some funny bits. I'm glad I took a chance with this book.

This was Tom Holt's first book and, while I've read a couple others, I think this is the best. Writing comedy is extremely difficult but the vein of humor in this book stands out. A fun read.

For anyone not familiar with the work of Tom Holt his tongue-in-cheek look at situations and his witty, clever style make for an excellent read. If you have never read him, Blonde Bombshell is a good place to start but expect to have to shell out dollars for his back catalogue because you will want more. This book ticks along very nicely and as the plot progresses you find yourself realising that earlier passages were whopping great clues as to where it is going. Its a good book, quite thick and full of words, try it.

The books of Tom Holt are a cross between science fiction, fantasy, satire and absurdity, He fits into a typical English tradition that includes Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and and Jasper Fforde. If you like one of these writers, it is very likely you will like Tom Holt too. If you don't, better don't start with a book of Tom Holt. For the rest: we all know that octopuses are very clever and a dog is a man's best friend. Better keep that in mind, next time you order octopus salad or kick the dog. Before you know, they come and get you.

With geeky twists at each clever interstellar plot turn, this was a laugh out loud book for me. Great Fun!

This is the first book I have read by Tom Holt, and it did not disappoint. It was a fun read, and I was smirking or chuckling throughout the book. I will definitely be reading more by Holt in the future.

FUNNY lol :-) Everything about this story is imaginative, twisty, and fantastic. A bomb who walks around in human form? AWESOME. Planet of dogs? HILARIOUS. Tension, characters, plot, idea . . . EVERYTHING is WONDERFULLY ORIGINAL!!!!!!

Not awful, just not very good. Stupid villains, cliches, too much reliance on repetitive dog jokes and a lot of deus ex octopus.

Braucht ein bisserl um richtig in Fahrt zu kommen, aber wenn die Grundlagen einmal geschaffen sind, wird aus Amusement lautes Lachen.... Es ergeben sich immer wieder Situationen, die mich Stunden später noch zum Lachen brachten. Wer "hinter'm Mond gleich links" mag, wird sich hier auch gut unterhalten.

Came in good condition and am waiting to read it.

This is a very funny book and is really good, if somewhat silly, science fiction. Very Tom Holt but a bit of a different direction.

Zany. That's what this book was. Dogs are people, bombs are people, people are dogs, octopuses are computers and words are people too. It all makes sense in the end, except for the stuff that doesn't.
