Great quality
These boots can handle all sorts of abuse. I work on a horse farm in Texas with black land mud. These boots get COVERED in mud very often, if I let the mud dry and then toss them on a hard surface the mud comes off and they look fine again. Alternatively, I can hose them off. I have accidental gotten bleach on them, nothing happened. I have dumped through water on them pretty much daily and my feet stay dry. They have also saved my ankle countless times when I slide off slippery rocks under the mud. I have 3 pairs and they’re all great and very true to size and they don’t squeeze my toes at all. Overall, wonderful boots and if you don’t abuse them like I do I bet they’d last for many years.

True to size and not too heavy.
I love my Keens. I have purchased several different brands of boots since last buying my Keen hiking boots but i would always go back to wearing my older pair of Keens. Finally, the bottom tread was falling off so it was time for a new boot. This time I decided to stick with Keen. I have a wide foot and although my last pair were a 7.5 wide, they felt a little narrow to start off with. When ordering, these boots scared me a little, especially reading reviews, but I find them true to size, and although the Targhee III do not come in wide, they work. I tried a wider pair of Keens, too, but found that they felt heavy and a little too loose for my taste. I like to feel the stability and strength of the boot around my ankles and foot. I began hiking in them immediately and have not had any issues. I typically replace boot inserts with a Super Feet support but find that the Keen insole feels perfect, even with my high arch. This style is waterproof, so it wears a little hotter than my last pair, but I have adjusted the weight of my sock to fit the weather. Very pleased.

Comfortable boot with nice detailing, but the jury is still out on quality..
Right out of the box these boots were extremely comfortable. I was quite pleased and am looking forward to hiking in them. Per comments in other reviews, I hope that they last and are durable. I did read through many of the reviews before purchasing these and was surprised that no one commented on the reflective strip in the back the sides and the top, which was one of the things that caught my attention first, but maybe that’s because I’m often out after dusk. I like how the back reflective ribbon strip can also be used as a hook to help you put on your boot. However, I can see why another reviewer thought that the tongue of the boot could be a little thicker and wider but I think I’m gonna have to log a few miles or several miles before I can adequately review that function. I did not need to put in my own arch support so far, though the insole that these boots come with are quite flimsy, so at some point that might be a good idea. I think it must be the design of the boot itself that is so comfortable and is unrelated to the “arch support” insert . But it is removable so it’s not a dealbreaker. Several people did mention the fabric part between the leather upper and the rubber bottom tore easily, and I could kind of see how that could happen, as well as comments about having issues with the adhesive between the boot upper and the bottom rubber traction part, coming unglued. Since I have not worn them outside yet, I don’t know how durable of a pair I received, but at the moment, because they are so comfortable for me, which is rare, I am going to try them out and keep them. After doing a thorough exam it appears, and I could be wrong, that rather than an issue of the quality of the workmanship involved with the shoes falling apart quickly, it could be more of an issue of the glue that they use and the type of adhesive. Bad batch? different manufacturer? You know, like vitamin companies... Quality of different manufacturers is quite discernible if you are sensitive to it.

Love Keens
I love keens. My last pair lasted 15 years. They fit great, waterproof, great on any terrain including 4rth class climbing. I purchased a new pair 2 years ago and loved them, until they started falling apart at the seem between the sole and upper during the first year. So disappointing. Hoping it was just a bad batch. I have a husky so I am outside in them 3.5 to 5 hours a day. Take a few long hiking trips as well each year. I need good boots! I am going to buy a new pair soon. Even with the problem with my current pair, I highly recommend Keens. They are worth the price. Also you dont have to break them in, no hot spots in early use.

Great Hiker
My 20 yr old daughter wears 8.5-9 and she says these fit as sized and are very comfortable. We hike RUGGED wooded rocky trails and off-trail in Northern AZ and holding up well.

Comfort
Absolutely the best hiking boots. Main point is that they are wide in the toe area so they never feel tight. They however fit as close or as loose as you want around the ankle. They are waterproof. I mean waterproof. Love them!

Expensive boots w/ terrible grip
I was recommended these hiking boots by my parents because I was heading to Costa Rica. I bought them back in April 24’. I used them multiple times for good lengths of time over several different terrains to break them in. I even wore them to Disneyland to walk ten miles in. Every time I wore them my feet felt like they would fall apart. So uncomfortable that I ended up purchasing inserts to put in them. Fast forward to June during my trip. I wore them on the hikes through the rain forest and let me tell you I did not feel confident in them keeping me stable one bit. I was constantly focused on where to step in fear of losing the grip. They were great to protect my feet and ankles from critters but that was it. Two days ago I was walking around the main city and had my hiking sandals on, walked 4 miles and felt great but it was starting to rain and the streets can get a little slick. I decided before heading out on a walking food tour to switch to the boots to help keep me from slipping. They did the OPPOSITE! I can’t count how many times I felt the shoe slip as I walked. Ultimately I ended up slipping and unable to save myself. I fell hard on my knee resulting in a giant slice and scrape. I couldn’t go back and change because the tour had started. So I’m walking through the city with bloody knee and walking for another 4 miles before finally making it back to the hotel and my feet were literally screaming. The tops of my feet were so strained, the bottoms hurt and I got a large blister on one of my toes (which I hadn’t gotten one yet). I would’ve felt safer in the hiking sandals and more confident in not slipping/falling. I one hundred percent wouldn’t purchase these again nor recommend them.

Cracked and falling apart after 2 years
Started cracking and falling apart after only 2 years of light occasional use. My previous Keen hiking boots that these replaced lasted at least 5years of much harder and more frequent use, and the pair before that lasted at least 7 years. I really liked the boots, but cannot justify the price when the quality has gone so far downhill. My next boots will not be Keens, which is a shame as I have loved this brand and worn their hiking boots exclusively for almost 20 years. 3 stars because they were great boots for the 2 years they lasted. Warm and waterproof, with good support and excellent tread. If they were cheap enough to justify replacing after 2 years I would have given 4 or 5 stars and would be buying another pair.
